If you are celebraiting a birthday you can request ballons and birhtday button. They are great with that kind of stuff with no charge extra. We have in the past gone to the Disney Store before our trips and bought goodies for our 9 year old DS and when we leave for the park someone gos back to the room quick and put goodies on his bed for him from Mickey. We did a Mickey Stocking on our Christmas trip and that was great! We try to pick up a stuffed animal that is his favorite and some other little things that would make him smile. Enjoy what ever you do Im sure will be oh so magical! Have a great trip!

Don't ever worry. Frankly, it always makes me smile from ear-to-ear to read posts from an excited parent planning a special trip for his/her children. That's what it's all about! Keep asking!

That is the way to go! I hit the Disney Store sales and got tons of stuff. First night, giant Pooh and Mickey-$9,99 and spinner lights, Tinkerbell and Buzz-$2.50 each (reg price 12.50!) All in all, the total for the above food treats was $82.07 and that is without the strawberries! I guess we lucked out there but watch out for the phone charges-geez one was $20.63. Ds loved everything except the strawberries, dd liked nothing. I ate the strawberries-lol. They both said the chocolate tasted "weird" and for the money, it would be much better to just pick up something in the park and slip it into the room. If I had know, I'd just get something one day and as we left for the park the next day, be the last to leave the room and set it up. First night, I could have hit the bakery at DLH as they were open late. Also, each night when we got back they were dead tired and didn't really want anything to eat. Usually, we had just eaten dinner or some other treat and it just wasn't all I thought it would be. I wanted to try it once thinking it would be "special" and because we got such good AP rates, we had the extra $$ With the exception of the strawberries, I saw every other treat in the park for much, much less money and if the kids had a choice between a Mickey cookie or something else, they picked Nerd Ropes-lol. In other words, I would not do it again. Still have dd's one cookie and her mouse ears sitting here, she is not going to eat them.

Strawberries, Cookies, Mickey Choc baskets and Christmas tree! Hope this helps as they were all wonderful!

My kids too would be the ones turning up their noses at the $25 cookies and instead opting for Nerd Ropes! LOL Honestly, yes, I would surprise myself if I felt up to spending that kind of money, but instead I'd rather splurge on a really cool sweatshirt or something - you know? I just wish my husband were the type to have surprises in the room waiting for me. I mean, not to put him down (the guy just spent $855 on four deluxe APs, not to mention what the hotel and 3 days of food will cost), but everything is always *my* idea. I just would love to be surprised for a change! Gawd, I sound like a spoiled brat, don't I????? *blush* Anyway, thanks for the great feedback, guys!!! I really, really appreciate it. Susan

I surprise him often by getting myself stuff and wrapping it up "from him-to me"! Sometimes, you just have to treat yourself and pretend it is from DH! If I write him detailed instructions, he will follow through but then it still isn't a surprise because I've done all the work-lol. Well, at least we know we are not alone... Since it was my birthday, I got the list from VP for baskets, etc. but it was very costly and you could easily make up a basket for 1/4 of the price. Maybe make up your own basket for you and DH with shirts, treats, wine, bath stuff and candles for when the kids fall asleep. Hide it in your luggage and at least he will be surprised-lol. As for the kids, the best thing is to pick up a bunch of inexpensive Disney stuff before you leave and when they fall asleep, put it out so it's the first thing they see when they wake up. We have done this ever since my 10 year old was a baby and it is fun for me and fun for them! They never ask for anything in the parks all day long because they know Tinkerbell will be coming. I still let them get one thing on the last day because that way we can still shop around. As I said above, I hit the DIsney store but I also find things all over. I always go to the dollar store and buy the light up necklace/bracelet sets and often they have disney books/activity books too. Even Kmart has disney stuff! I pack it all in one suitcase and put it away in the closet, they have no clue it is there, and every night I get something else out. I try too to do "themes" like got dd a Narnia shirt the day we went to see the White Witch. Stuffed animals the first night to sleep with the rest of the trip. In Nov, DS had hats, scarfs and gloves for $2.50 each and it was perfect for the cold nights! I usually give 3 things each night like stuffed animal, keychain and a lollipop. Trust me, it is waaaay better than the treats delivered to the room and a lot cheaper too!

He used to call me -teasingly- Princess Heidi of Heidiland!) What can I say?...

I am going to start accumulating some small gifts now and by the time we go (9 days) I should have everything I need so Tinkerbell can "visit" each night. That is the coolest idea EVER! My kids thank you already. ;-) And I also love your family "basket" idea. You are so creative! I can't wait to surprise everyone myself.

I ate the strawberries. I had Disney Dollars delivered one day and they enjoyed those- they used them to buy their own snacks in the park ( instead of having to share with brothers like we usually do) but now Santa leaves Disney Dollars in their stockings. I am going to do the leaving little things while they sleep this trip. I am going to try the sparkly money this time maybe for souvenirs. How was that done- hair spray and glitter?
