I'm trying to get a group of people interested in going to New Orleans's big ol' party for Carnival. The goal is to have a rockin' good time and pump money into the local New Orleanian economy.

You in? Want to be in and just not sure?

Let me explain what Mardi Gras is, exactly...

Before people think I'm asking them to give time & money to something akin to the adults-only industry.

Mardi Gras is the Tuesday before Lent (a Catholic holiday during which Catholics give up eating red meat), called Mardi Gras or "fat tuesday" because the locals would kill and eat their largest cow on this day. It was sort of a last "Hoo-rah!", a "one more for the road!" type of holiday. Mostly, it was a Catholic holiday, of course, but in the same way Halloween is a pagan holiday, it's become something that you don't have to be of that religion to celebrate and enjoy.
And, although college kids love to go and show a little extra in the name of getting more beads than the next guy, on good authority (local annual attendees), these college kids that do so are in the minority and mostly confined to the French Quarter.

So, although there's a chance that you might see something more than you bargained for, it's a relatively small chance.

I tried booking a room at the Bienville hotel in the French Quarter, but it's already full and accepting no more reservations. I was a little upset, because I've always wanted to stay there, but I think it's a good sign that the Hotel was already full in December. :)
