I've been in June before and didn't think it to be that bad. We have gone in the middle of June or July many times and have really enjoyed it. You just have to expect crowds and be smart about. But if you know you can't handle the crowds (my dad for instance) then I don't recommend it. But as you said any trip to Disneyland is better than none!
