Do you think the old fashioned games like Mr Potato Head ( I remember using real potatoes and felt pieces) Also Connect 4 and the old Cootie game. But today I wandered into the APPPLE store and saw the newest Disney magical pen for all the lucky children that are receiving i-pads from Santa. My grandchildren will hate their battery free Xmas.

My nephews are the same age as your grandchildren and they are far more into lego than anything else. I asked a few of those Apple people/storeworkers and they did not know anything about it. Do those people have an official name they must call themselves and the customers similar to cast member/guest. Anyway the Disney Creativity Pen costs 49.95 and requires batteries...

No way was I going to buy a complete boxed set just cause we needed that moonstone!!! Personally it makes me mad all of the "theming", as a grandparent. That is why I say they are expensive... It is no longer an innocent toy.

The whole point of Legos is to use your imagination and make something original. The kits remind me of paint by the number sets. If I want a Millennial Falcon or a TIE fighter I'd rather have a real model and not a Lego one.

Originally Posted By Kar2oonMan >>My grandchildren will hate their battery free Xmas.<< No they won't. Even as a kid battery powered toys weren't as much fun as imagination powered ones. Plus, eventually the batteries died and then most of those toys were useless. LEGOs are wonderful at every age, especially the Freestyle kind rather than the branded sets. Classics like Mr. Potato Head and Cootie and Hi Ho Cherry-O will seem exotic to them. If you play WITH them especially they'll enjoy it and you'll both have lasting memories of this Christmas. Another great low tech game is TROUBLE. It teaches strategy and planning (and the consequences of knocking your opponent pack to start -- revenge! LOL) I say god job going low tech!

Games are always good. We have many we have gathered over the years. The first thing my grandkids ask when they come over is, "Will you play a game with me?!?" >>My grandchildren will hate their battery free Xmas.<< I think not. I did not buy my grandchildren souvenirs on our last Disneyland trip. Money was short. When the two little ones (6 and 3) came over when we got home I told them I brought them............wait for it.............. chocolate milk. They were ecstatic. The best things in life are battery-free.
