Originally Posted By Santa Monica I've got both Brain Age and Big Brain Academy. Brain Age is a fun for single players. You take an initial test to determine your Brain Age (either a Shroop test or math test) and then do one of nine training exercises. Exercises are Calculations x20, Calculations x100, Reading Aloud, Low to High, Syllable Count, Head Count, Triangle Math, Time Lapse, Voice Calculation. Then you retake the test to lower your Brain Age. After I achieved the best brain age possible, 20, I stopped doing the tests. And once in a while, I'll do some exercises. My favorites being Calculation x20, Low to High, and Head Count. The thing I always play is the free Sudoku that came with it. 100 puzzles ranging from Basic to Hard. Brain Age's sudoku is perfect IMO. You tap on the box you want to write a number in and it zooms to fill the screen. Then you write the number. Handwriting recognition is very good. You can even write a small number as a note. For beginners, you can choose for the game to let you know when you've made a mistake. Big Brain Academy has more variety than Brain Age. In this game, there are 15 different challenges. Some of the challenges include determining the heaviest item by looking at some scales, counting cubes, memorizing numbers, adding simple word problems, and so on. Based on the amount of correct responses within a given amount of time, the game determines how much your brain weighs. When you take the test, it takes 5 challenges and grades you. I've only been able to achieve a B-. It's pretty tough. The game really shines in multiplayer. If you know anyone else with a DS, you can connect (up to 7 DS's) with just one game card. It's a competition on who can earn 300 points first... and it's maddening. I've played this around my family and because of this game, three have bought DS's. These games really do appeal to non-gamers. There are other great games in the DS library, like Tetris DS, Mario Kart DS, Trauma Center: Under the Knife, and Animal Crossing. I love the DS Lite. It is much much better than the initial DS release. The screens are very vibrant and bright (IMO the brightest setting is TOO bright). Anyway, I love it and play it everyday on the train to work.

You should just hand off the old DS to a family member and get the new one. Then you can multiplay with that person.

We have a friend that has the DS and Brain Age and watching him play it, it looked fun! I can see so many uses for non-gamers for the DS Lite if the gaming industry would only go after folks like us. I like stuff like Tetris so the Tetris DS game sound cool as well as the Wario Ware which I've seen my friends play.. lots of fast paced puzzle games and levels.. good stuff to keep the mind stimulated and not just you know, shooting stuff and collecting coins & magic stuff. =) (also they have a Nintendo DS game called "Kim Possible Kimmunicator" which sounds cool too.. (love KP!)

However, I play the suduko offten and really enjoy that. Animal Crossing has become my addiction now =) A friend of mine has the lite and it is lovely. The D pad takes a little getting used to as it is significantly smaller. But the fact that you can see the screen outside in the sunlight totally makes it worth it. Our DS phat has one dead pixel in the upper screen, I am trying to use this as an excuse to warrent buying a lite =)
Originally Posted By Shooba I have both games, and enjoy them both (except the "read a passge from a book out loud" activity in brain age, I always skip that one). Neither, however has really held my attention for long. I don't find myself picking up Brain Age for my daily training like I should be. I also get annoyed when it reads my numbers wrong or doesn't understand me when I say "Blue" but it works fine almost all of the time. If I had to choose one I'd choose Brain Age, just for the Sudoku (my first exposure to that particular game), and at the low low price they're selling these games for, it's really a no-brainer.

I hear a new Trama Center game is in the works!?!?

I'm at the deadly sins and can't beat it. I've read pretty bad things about the Cars game. Well, they mainly said that it was a decent racer for a 6 year old. The Pirates game looks decent. Haven't heard much about it. I'll probably pick both up when they're in the bargain bin.

I probably will be getting an additional game or two since it is such a good machine.

It doesn't have any problems picking up the rest of the words, but at least three-quarters of the time, it doesn't pick up "blue." Weird. I also love the New Super Mario Bros. That game tocks!
