Has anyone been to DCA on NYE?
Are there any special things to do?
What does Disney do different for NYE?
Are the character meals any different?
Are the parks super busy the few days after NYE?

I appreciate any tips to pass on to my friend.

I dont know about DCA but DL usually gives out hats and sound making toys. And it is open a crazy number of hours. The last time I went it was open from 8 am to 3 am!

Unless the construction is insane and keeps the event limited.

We have been in DL when they continued with the fireworks just as you described, it made it pretty funny. Everyone ahhed just for fun as we were staring at a dark sky :)

The crowds weren't THAT bad, IMO. Even though I had Alex with me, we were able to navigate through them, and I didn't lose her once. Of course, once we got to the party at Small World, I found a spot to meet up, so we didn't have to go back to LostChildren on Main Street.

I know I would have had more fun if I'd been solo, or with adult friends.

They had party hats & blowers at Pacific Wharf & the Reindeer Roundup. We were in DL until 10:15 & then went to DCA. The fog was considerably heavier in DCA, but there was nobody there! We walked on Screamin' & Midway Mania over & over again.

It was kinda anti-climatic though, not being able to see the fireworks & the countdown was just all of a sudden on 5....4.....3....2...1 But, the whole day was so much fun, we'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I saw a sign that said tickets fo DL were sold out at 2 PM, but did they ever close the gates?
