Seriously, do not expect any substantial additions or new attractions for Walt Disney World for the next few years. The earliest you will see a new attraction is 2011 maybe even 2012. Sorry.

October 3rd announcement concerns the cruise line and dvc.

For all intents and purposes wdw is "complete" for the next 5 years. If you want to see new experinces then go to Universal.

Yeah, they wil probably respond with more things like free dining, etc.

And maybe they realize that no matter what they do, they will be upstaged by Universal with HP. So maybe they will just ride on Harry's coat tails, and try to capitalize on the incremental visitors to Orlando who will come to see HP. Just get those people to stay on Disney property (with discounts) and maybe WDW attendance will actually bump up!

And me as well. It takes away the significance of a SPECIAL EVENT when every day is a special event. It's now meaningless.

Disney will not feel(a bee sting at the very most) Universal's expansion. In 1999 Universal ambitiously built an entire park and a nightlife area which more or less unfased Disney; Dinosaurs, dragons, Dudley Dorights and dancing/dining did not impact the mouse so how can one 'land' inside one park affect it?.... It won't.

But like I said above, if HP draws us to Orlando, there is little doubt we will also visit the Mouse.

But I think a more likely outcome is that Harry will have a most neutral affect on Disney in that it should prompt many to hit Orlando and for the vast majority no Orlando experience is complete without a mouse visit.

Something else to consider: Universal is at the very least 0 for 4(maybe 0 for 7) in coming out with thier blockbuster/super headliner/state of the art super- hyped attractions which were designed to fill their parks with both domestic and international visitors.

Take a look at these hugely anticipated industry groundbrakers that did not live up to expectations ***as far as pulling in the masses***:

    T2 '96
    Jurassic Park(USH) '98
    Spiderman and Dueling Dragons '99
    MIB 2000
    Mummy(USO, USH) '04(or was it '05?)

Those are very fine attractions but they haven't brought in the crowds Universal was hoping to see and they definitely have not hurt Disney in any way.

Potter will be no different. I expect Universal to see a clear bump in attendance for it first two years then level off again but nothing earthshaking since, again, it's just one part of one section(Lost Continent) of one park.

ORWEN: The Oak Tree Tavern Restaurant is all gone, too! It was such a pretty place to eat but now it's just not there any more. I guess they'll have to have a restaurant inside the new castle they're buiding, instead.

A common misconception. The main harry potter area is actually taking up an expansion pad that was always saved for a 6th. island. However, since potter is such a large franchise they wanted to give it more land than the other islands so it will be taking over most of Lost Contintent as well to become a super island.
