So to answer your question, yes, the music will be gone, but it will be replaced with music specially written to accentuate the track layout.

I'm also thankful for that. My kid & I both hated the experience of seeing the tracks & images of people, rather than the classic Space Mountain experience of flinging through the darkness, seeing only stars & such. I think the Chili Peppers idea was a natural for California Screamin', but ill-conceived for Space Mountain.

I did like the music though. The drummer for Red Hot Chili Peppers (chad) went into the studio and recorded a whole new drum track to help fit the track and time of the ride. Then the sound designer for the attraction would go on Space Mtn. over and over adjusting the sound levels of each instruments and voices to match the track turns, drops, and rises. I think it could have been better, could have been worse, but overall it was fun. as long as disney doesn't do it to often.

And this was with some random lady with tons of hair sitting in front of me too. I don't mind temporary changes, but they need to make sure that the temporary changes still make the attraction look good (HMH attic scene goes in this category too)

We didn't care for the new music the first time through but the 3rd and 4th time it kind of grew on us. I agree that the music fit Screamin more than Space. Although I couldn't get Weird Al out of my head during Screamin :)

It was weird going the day after they shut Rockin off, same old Space and Screamin. I guess we liked them both or should I say all 4?

I totally agree, I went to Disneyland on Friday and really missed the soundtrack when I rode screamin'. After the Chili Peppers track, the music that they actually wrote for the ride just isn't the same.

Good question. I thought that the asteroid was subbosed to be a big part of 'rockin' space mountain. Yet so far it hasn't done much of anything, ever.

And the camera hasn't moved since it opened in 2005. It's just as the trains are hitting the breaks, with the little comets flying everywhere. The bright light when the comets change directions is when they take it. It cought me off guard the first time, and in my picture, you could see that I was saying "Whoa!" at the cool effects.

I know it's supposed to be lit- a flash picture reveals to much color for it to be meant to be in the dark. Black light would be my guess. I wonder if the asteroid lighting interferred in some way with the projection effect you see when you ascend the first lift, though the surface that that's projected on seems like it would be far enough away.

Nope - the main reason for the refurb was that the tracks were unexpectedly falling apart. They needed to gut the track completely and replace it, which is hard to do in that enclosed space. The dark thing was a secondary goal, and a good one IMO.
