Yes, I don't even think people here even knew this, but yeah I was in Peru BUT got out waaaay before the earthquake hit since I was back in LA by then, where I'm at now . Believe it or not, I was ironically at Disneyland out of all places sitting in the Hilton hotel with my mother when we saw the news on CNN. Woke up the next day and I got about 9 emails from people asking me where the hell I'm at?? But nope, I was fine, more than fine being at DL ;D. But yeah, in my little trip, I made a few friends there, tourists and locals and sent out some emails to see if everything was alright. It IS shocking to think if I stayed a few extra days I could've been involved in something so tragic. I lived in California and Japan, I'm use to earthquakes, but what tragically hit Peru was nothing I was ever involved in. I just hope that those people can adjust as back to normal as quickly as possible and that the government can help pick up their lives considering all the homes and property that was lost, not to mention the 500+ people who lost their lives so far. Its strange, when stuff like this happens on the other side of the world, naturally it hits you. But when you were JUST on that side of the world yourself, meeting those people, seeing how they live and etc, it hits you harder than it normally would. Stupidly, I didn't tell my mother I was IN Peru, because I didn't want her to worry ironically. Although I was nowhere near that, it made me realize how stupid it was of me to do that now! What if I WAS involed somehow and I had to call her from Peru somewhere? She would've had a heart attack realizing where I *really* was. Never will do that again. Lesson learned, just thank mother nature it was the easy way and not the hard. Anyway, I'm fine, typing on my computer back in Compton....luckily I'm staying in a place where nothing ever happens ;D. I WAS going to post pictures of my trip here this week, but due to the event, I feel strange showing off vacaction photos and me hanging out at temples considering the destruction that happened there, so I'm going to hold off on that for awhile now. Thanks for the thoughts everyone .

I guess at some point in our lives we all have something similar to this happen. One of those situations for me -- was the North Hollywood shoot out several years ago. I stopped by that very bank late at night within a week of that big shootout. I never ever thought of something like that happening there. So it was really shocking to me to see it there on the news and recognize that I'd just been there. Getting out of my little VW Cabriolet and without a care in the world getting money from the ATM. It gave me pause. And more recently my aunt was scheduled to be driving over the bridge that collapsed in Minnesota the next day. We'll continue to keep Peru in our thoughts. Rebekah.
