My family and I used to stay across the street at one of the motels, but it was always noisy especially at night. So, we finally stayed at the Paradise Pier. It was very quiet. We LOVED staying there. In fact, I could make a day of just hanging out around the hotels. What experiences have you had with DLR hotels? Especially in regard to noise. I bristle at the thud thud thud of stomping feet up above me or the slamming of doors late at night.

I have never stayed "on propety" as I have a hard time justifying that amount of $$. Someday, I will pamper myself and just do it.

Bigger rooms, closer to Downtown Disney, and easier access to DL from there. Grand Californian is beautiful but it costs too much, and what should be a plus - being on the edge of a park - really isn't because DL opens earlier, stays open later, etc. and you pay a premium to be there, let alone the upgrade price to have a park view room. Paradise Pier is nice, but the rooms are smaller and it just doesn't have the charm either of the others do. Noise - it can happen anywhere. It totally depends on who's around you. We've had noise in the Disney hotels, but by and large, they're still better than most of the motels and hotels around in terms of sound proofing. If people are going to loud and rude, they CAN overcome it. Pollyana - that's what I did last year, and checked off the only hotel I hadn't stayed in before - The Disneyland Hotel. Loved it. It's worth the bit extra, if you really want to soak up the Disney air day and night. I'm not staying there this trip - budget would not allow. For this trip, it would have been around $200 more - $100 per night compared to where we're staying off property.

We finally decided to go for it and stay at the Paradise Pier (because it was the cheapest). Like I mentioned, it was quieter. But what I really enjoyed was that I didn't feel like I had to just stay in my room. There are restaraunts in the hotels, gift stores, game rooms, tv room for the kids, etc. It really does feel like you are just in a quiet area of Disneyland and that you never left the park. The drawback is, I don't know if I could ever downgrade to the Best Western again. We also bought one AP for my wife, which provided a discount on the room, meals, merchandise.

One thing is, last time I went I stayed at the Park Vue Inn directly across the street from the pedestrian entrance. It was actually a lot closer to walk to the park from there than any of the Disney hotels. And it had a decent free breakfast. So it saved us a lot of money. The rooms were nice, sizable, and very clean.
