It doesn't make sense on any level other than DLFAN's incredibly hyper sense of drama. DL is a legend. It doesn't require the promotion that WDW does. It gets "shut the gates" business without it. You don't spend mega advertising bucks where it isn't needed. On the other hand, it takes a lot of people to fill up WDW.

I was happy to be able to feel like a part of the party. It's also a great marketing ploy from a company standpoint...higher profit margins all the way around and not just a spike at one park.

Honestly... when I visited DL thi spast July, the feeling of celebration was genuine...but at WDW, this celebration comes off phoney and too engineered for me to really validate it. >>It's also a great marketing ploy from a company standpoint...higher profit margins all the way around and not just a spike at one park.<< I disagree... no other Disney park is benefiting from DL's 50th aniversary except WDW. TDL for example did not need this because they do their usual special events and such on an ongoing basis with or without DL's celebration. As for DLP and HKDL...not much is going on there to acknowledge DL's 50th. So, only WDW is benefitting from all this. Not even DCA is getting higher numbers due to DL's 50th!!!

I keep coming back that this is all part of the same company for cripes sake. It's not like WDW is a separate entity that's in business competition with DLR. The same people that complain that WDW is "stealing" DLR's day here would be complaining about WDW's apathy if WDW paid no special attention to DLR at all.

Anything that brings a little 'extra' to WDW works for me for the most part so that there is a spark - something new - etc -- ( kinda like Star Wars Weekends / Flower Power Concerts / Soap Opera Weekends / and now ESPN weekends. Last night on PBS ( it is pledge time here ) - they had a special on Jim Brickman @ the Magic Kingdom -- and while watching - during the pledge break this woman told people it was the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World and Disney. Now at first I didn't know where to even start with this as it was wring on so many levels. But then I realized that 999 / 1000 never caught that mistake......so I had to just let it go......
