Chairman Sumner Redstone told the Wall Street Journal in an interview posted online. "His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount." Paula Wagner, the actor's longtime partner in his movie company, Cruise/Wagner Productions, struck back at Redstone, calling his comments about the three-time Oscar nominee "offensive" and "undignified." "Whatever remarks Mr. Redstone would make about Tom Cruise personally or as an actor have no bearing on what this business issue is," she told Reuters. "There must be another agenda that the studio has in mind to take one of their greatest assets and malign him this way."<<

And its not just the Scientology bit, its the jumping on couches, being the butt of all hollywood jokes, and his insisting on knowing "the history of psychology" and all about postpartum that has plummeted Tom Cruise's image.

I can't believe I'm siding with an egomaniacal, largely-talentless movie star and a Hollywood publicist, but... Since when in post-50's history have film studios concerned themselves with a star's off-screen morality or behavior? Since when have they been concerned with morality at all? Redstone's statement is hypocritical, false, and offensive, in my opinion. If Paramount indeed dropped Cruise -- and not the other way around -- I would have found it perfectly acceptable for Redstone to state, "Paramount has spent the equivalent of one-half the production budget of a quasi-snuff film sequel to conduct surveys and make projections related to Tom Cruise's audience appeal. Our research indicates that, due to his recent bizarre behavior, 40% of the movie-going public is more likely to avoid a Cruise vehicle than previously. We are all about money. Heck, every one of us execs here would sell our mothers into slavery if it would make money for the studio. So, for purely business reasons, we have dropped Cruise." But, "his behavior is not acceptable to us"?! Give me a break.

Since the end of the "Studio System" years, Hollywood has devolved into "We don't care what you do in your private life, as long as you make us money" town. You know .. there was a day and age when moguls like LB Mayer and Zanuck who went out of their way to keep celebrity's image in check. Those days are over. It's a "free for all" Hollywood now.

And we all know how Cruise feels about "South Park" *LOL* He's turned into a freak show... *Shrug* He's got plenty of money and his own production company - he'll survive. There's no love lost there for me, nor is there for a lot of people, I imagine. It'll be interesting to see what comes next... Don't we all love strange surprises? ;-)

Cruise does absolutely nothing for me as an actor or a person. I never saw the appeal. Kevin Costner is a better actor, and Costner can't act. I don't blame Paramount one bit. Cruise has turned into a freak show, as said elsewhere, and if they're going to invest untold millions into his movies they have every right to expect he won't gratuitously insult post partum depression mothers like Brooke Shields or make himself look like an ass on the Today show or act like a monkey in heat on Oprah or turn Katie Holmes into a Stepford girlfriend or make up stories about saving people on the road for publicity's sake. I think Hollywood's past practices of covering up the private lives of actors and actresses, while understandable from the standpoint of protecting a contractual investment, has also contributed to the subsequent personal problems and scandals for the principals involved and their families when they're inevitably ultimately revealed, either during their lives or posthumously. Paramount likely has enough polling data or surveys or just some plain common sense via the accounting department telling them that they're no longer getting the bang for their buck with Cruise. Let someone else indulge the egomaniacal self-destructive manipulator.

I used to love Katie Holmes when she was on Dawson's Creek and popular then, now she seems like a different person. One that has grown up, but one that doesnt seem to be very sure of herself either.

There's no life in her face, no expression, no anything. She literally is a Stepford girlfriend.

His mom would push that stuff onto my mom, even giving her a bookt o read called something like "The many hats of women." She said it was all about the role women should play, which was basically shut our mouths and do what pleases our man.
