I have been trying to find a very good friend from high school for years now. The closest I thought I got was an old address (on the street he grew up on) and I knew that couldn't be right.

So, on Saturday, I called information for his number at this address. I called and a woman (I assumed his wife)answered. I asked if "Bill" (obviously not the right name, lol) who had gone to ..name of my high school.. lived there, he would have graduated in 1965 one year ahead of me. She asked me how old I was, I answered, and she said, immediately, "hold on, I think the Bill you're looking for is right here".

And it was him!! How incredibly cool to find him after over 30 years. We picked up talking like we never left off - but my separated husband decided to walk in the house at that point, so I cut the conversation off, but promised to call back.

So very nice. I don't expect to have the same relationship -- we were very close friends -- never dated. But it would be nice for the 3 of us to get together and maybe strike up a new/old friendship.

BTW, the address was right - he had moved in to a house right down the street from a house that he grew up in. I'm meeting more and more people from that area that have done that.

Although the thought of his body being all separated was pretty funny, j/k

You are so much braver than I. I don't think I'd ever been able to do that. Believe it or not, I think I'd be too shy to even try it.

I really didn't keep track of my high school friends as the years went by. This year was our 50th class reunion. I decided I would probably go since I am only a bit more than a hundred miles away.

Kept watching the alumni section of my HS internet site, but found no mention of any reunion. At a retirement dinner for a friend, I met a classmate whom I had not known in school. She told me there was info out via snail mail and offered to send me a copy.

While waiting for it to arrive, I perused my senior yearbook and had many happy memories while looking at pictures.
I especially remembered one girl who had been a close friend and realized I hadn't seen her since graduation and hoped I might make up for that at the reunion.

When the info arrived, it contained details of the reunion, a list of classmembers wherabouts unknown (my name was on it) and a list of those deceased.

I read the last and saw names of some who probably died in Viet Nam, and felt sadness reading the names of those I recognized.

The last name on that alphabetical list was that of the girl I had known. Words cannot explain the sense of loss I felt for one who was once an important friend.

It turned out I could not attend the reunion because of scheduling conflicts. However, I am not certain I would have gone if I could. Even thinking of it now, I still feel the sense of loss.

I have lots of friends from college with whom I maintain contact and am determined to stay in touch.

Friends are one of life's great treasures. Cherish them.

Thank you for sharing in such a personal way. Its wonderful.
