Why is the MiraCosta pool so expensive?

I understand that there are spa facilities, but couldn't they have had the pools be free of charge at least? On top of the already expensive room rates, it just seems silly to charge an additional fee to use what should be a free facility.

    That seems awfully steep!

I'm not sure about the other hotels (are you SURE they're free?), but it IS fairly typical for high end hotels to charge for their pools (when I stayed at the Brighton, the pool cost 2000 or more, so I never bothered).

Still, for a Disney hotel, you'd think that "all access" would be similar to Disney properties elsewhere (spa facilities notwithstanding).

However that doesn't account for the discrepancy in policy across TDR hotels. We were told during the planning that the TDL Hotel had to be free though - I would guess that the spa facilities at the MiraCosta are behind the charges rather than the pool and that management decided it isn't possible to police a free entry policy for the pool only.
