I was then dumb enough to try again after a little break... only a 2 minute coughing fit this time. My hostess was reduced to offering me grilled cheese or left-over pizza. I don't know whether she or I was more embarrassed. I tried to tell her I was fine, but then a couple hours later my stomach started growling. Ugh!

I do recommend though, if you are not into hot stuff but want to give it another try, go to an indian restaurant and order either a Khorma, Chicken Tikka Masala or Biryani. They are all quite lightly spiced.
