We have been a lot in the past (this will be my 18th trip), but we have never been around the holidays. Do you think Disney at Christmas is as magical as it looks? (Okay, that sounds kind of cheesy, but it fits). This is a whole family trip: My Mother and Father, my 4 sisters (including 2 husbands and a little 4 year old, of which this will be his first trip ever). Do you all have any tips or suggestions to give me for going at this time of year? Are the parks super crowded, or are they just a little bit more than the summer?

    Thanks for any information.

There they have a crowd calender baised on daily observations and it shows their best guesses on how the crowds will be. They predict that the week of the 16th to the 21st will be moderate or standby times at the Magic Kingdom of anywhere from 35 minutes to 65 minutes. It's a subcribtion service (really cheap, like $10 or something for a year) so I don't want to give away too much of their product for free.

Long story short: The prediction is that parks won't be dead, but they will be lighter than the peak of summer.

The parks are great all year long, but especially around the holidays, they just seem to come alive. Apparently this year the Magic Kingdom will be getting some new decorations for the first time in a long time, so that is also great news.

As for crowds, I've never been that time of year (I've been for Thanksgiving weekend several times), but I doubt it will be too bad. There are definately going to be a lot of people there, but I would expect it to be very managable. If you have any attractions that you really want to do without a long wait, try to do them near the beginning of your visit, since they will definately grow as time goes on. Most people will still have kids in school during your trip, so it shouldn't be too bad (but there are plenty of people willing to take the kids out of school for a trip to WDW with fewer crowds!)

They actually had to close the MK and AK to the public because they were filled to capacity. We'll never go at that time of year again, but we went to see all the decorations and it was so worth it. Enjoy your vacation.
