For a GREAT view at relatively modest cost (for Disneyland) it would be hard to beat a park view on one of the upper floors of the PPH. That is what Ann and I had when we visited in December 2009. I know most people didn't think much of DCA at that time, but it sure was PRETTY at night. I've never stayed at the GCH, but I imagine the park views would not be as nice since the hotel is so much lower than the PPH... although the convenience of the location would be hard to beat.

Often our view outside the hotel was of the parking lot, but you could sit in the big chairs right outside of the room and hear the piano player playing in the lobby, plus pick up the lobby wi-fi and people watch.

Occasionally I would score the rooms close to the elevator and would have a view off the inner courtyard with the monorails gliding past. I always wanted to bring a sleeping bag to 'camp" on the balcony. Now my favorite Disney Hotel is the Paradise Pier. Apparently it has become too popular because it has become expensive. But I think the check in cast are the best and friendliest. I prefer the more cheerful sunny fun decor in lobby and rooms. RT is correct: the night view of DCA is spectacular. Also offers a great view of fireworks on pool level.I love the convenience of the small coffee shop with great service. It makes me happy to check in at PP. I haven't stayed at any of the hotels on Harbor Blvd for a long time . I would like to know if any have had recent refurb/update to get excited about... or improvement with the shuttles. Thanks
Originally Posted By Dabob2 <I was wondering if they still refer to the towers by name> They do. The one closest to the parks that was originally the Sierra, then the Dreams, is now the Adventure Tower. The one where you check in was originally the Marina, then the Magic, and now the Fantasy Tower. The third was originally the Bonita, then the Wonder, now the Frontier Tower. And if you're lucky enough to get an upper floor of the Adventure Tower, especially on the north end, you actually get quite a spectacular view of DL, even though they call it "DTD View." It's not the same type of view you get of DCA from the PP or the GCH, because it's not as close. But it's great nonetheless - more of an "aerial view." And the sound of the Mark Twain horn somehow travels up there, even though if you're on the ground at the DLH you can't hear it. You also get a decent view of DCA, and a good one of DTD - basically the whole DLR is at your feet. But there are relatively few rooms where that's the case, and we just happened to get lucky. My favorite view was probably a 6th floor at the GCH looking south. It's above the tree line, so the view is great. You had a great view of GRR, the monorail coming by, the TOT - and now you'd see Carsland too (it wasn't built when we got that view), which would be pretty great. Turn to the right and you could see PP, and turn to the left and you could see Hollywood and even see inside DL a little (Space Mountain, anyway). And what was really great was sitting out on the balcony sipping a hot beverage before the park opened and watching it "come to life."
