I’m being punished as only a tempter can be, I guess. First off, please note that our girls were not raised as Disneyland kids. They’ve known the music, the movies, the ‘toons. Just not the Land. Hence the ensuing heartbreak… We left the Phoenix area at 3 am (we should’ve left at 10:30 pm). Should’ve taken this as a harbinger of doom, but nay…we pressed on. Arrived, sleepless, at HoJo’s around 8:30. The room of course, was not ready, so the girls and I became breathtakingly attractive while changing in the lobby restroom of building one. We actually had a great first day. We had breakfast at the Riverbelle, at the request of the birthday girl, DD16. It was lovely sitting on the patio and the food was terrific (Club 33 bacon lovers: it was definitely “worthy”) The little sparrows were precious and DD18 enjoyed sharing her crumbs with them. *Note: DD18 is vegan, so we got to know the fruit stands well. The main street fruit stand sold fruit for $4.00. Riverbelle had a similar offering for $7.99, for example. So, the fruit stands are probably your best bet. We did Splash a couple of times and that is where it became apparent that they are not, in fact, my children. They do not “like” Splash. "It is so 80’s. And the eyes on the animals are so freaky, mom!" They endured Pirates. (Boring) They actually semi-enjoyed Indy. And now, the redeeming moment: they LOVED the Billies. Thank heaven for small favors! It was DD16’s second time, but DD18’s very first. She was totally entranced. Thank you, dearest Billies. xoxo DD18 had never been to DCA so we went there next. The girls loved Soarin’. (Who couldn’t? I cannot get enough of that flying sensation and the luscious smells…mmm) They loved Grizzly. They enjoyed Monsters. But the real highlight of their day came in and around the Animation building. First, we caught the “Drawn to the Magic” show. Excellent! Three “animators” (gosh, if they’re animators, too, wow…) sing and dance in a great audience participation show. By a lovely stroke of luck, the DD’s were chosen by 2 of the performers to go onstage. They posed, danced, and sang and were quite beautiful up their on stage, if I do say so myself. They got to keep the drawings done by the animators: Cinderella for DD18 and Sorcerer Mickey for DD16. Then, off to the animation academy where it was drawing, turtle talk, zoetrope, sorcerer’s workshop…oh, yeah. And Dream Ears. We were so thrilled. It was like winning the lottery. We spent a couple of hours in that one building. The girls were HOME. That was about it for DCA. The girls were tired and they called it a day!!!! DH and I were like……no way! So, we went back to the room. DH napped while DD18 and I got pizza and vegan food at the grocery store. After that, DH and I headed back and partied at DL until it shut down at midnight. Heavenly. We were exhausted, but thoroughly happy. It was the first time we had seen the fireworks from inside DL, in front of the castle. I’m such a goof. I just cried. It was all so beautiful….. Day Two: Girls went on strike; refused to participate. DH and I enjoyed spending time with Lady Starlight and Son and, later in the evening, watching the fireworks with –PLP- right in front of the castle! Breathtaking! DH made friends with some Canadians right next to us, and I silently sat, huddled in my still-wet clothes from Grizzly. It was worth it! We met submarine-maniac in the photo shop on Main and went to Disneyana with –PLP- as our partner in some secret skullduggery. Day Three: Girls on strike in the morning. Finally…(insert “spirited family discussion” here) we got them to go to the park with us around noon. Got DD16 her birthday button and we did whatever the princesses desired…pics with Tigger and the lovely Minnie (thank you, Minnie…you made her day); Alice in Wonderland, Buzz, Matterhorn, Space Mtn, Nemo…stuff like that. We had lunch at Rancho del Zocolo (note: nothing vegan…just vegetarian…is available there) Did Tower of Terror (very proud of DD18 for that one!) and then the girls decided to go to Newport Beach. (Did I mention we got the girls from someone on Ebay?) DH and I thought……well, what the heck, and we just had a blast the rest of the time, until the girls graced us with their presence again, about 6:30. Shut down the place. Well, it closed at 8 pm, much to my sorrow. No fireworks. No pixie dust. No Tink. Last trip report I’m ever doing…last time the princesses ever go to DL…and I cannot WAIT until I am back in the park. Xoxo PS Sorry it was a downer. And you know what? In real life, they are not such freaks…who knows what jinx got thrown on us this time?

In less than 3 weeks, we will be walking down Main Street and smelling the smells, tasting the goods, and having a great time. Fall hours are a bummer though. We will have to leave the park at 8pm. Oh well, we will have a great time. Thanks for posting the report, I know it was hard for you to write.
