I usually avoid crowds at all costs but this may be our only chance to go for a few years. Thanks in advance for the help.

It takes between 15 and 20 hours depending on how fast you drive, the traffic in Sacarmento and LA, the number of stops for food, gas, and leg streching. It is possible to do the drive in one very long day but having a second driver really helps if you decide to make it a straight shot. As far as the time period and crowds, expect it to be really busy. July 17th is DL birthday. I was there one year on that day (2003) and it was pretty much wall to wall people. There was also a heat wave during that week, but heat waves are just a matter of bad luck as they can occur just about any time. July is usually hot and crowded. Add to the equation that this is the last summer of the 50th celebration, I personally am preparing for huge crowds. Having said that, we will also be at DL in July (19 to 29). The kids and I are so ready to go. School can't end soon enough for any of us and the next month feels like forever. But it will all be worth it once we get to disneyland. Best of luck and have a great trip.

If you decide on Lincoln City but don't like crowds, be sure to check their calendar before you go because they have a serious Kite Festival every year and it gets pretty crowded. I think it's the last week of June, fyi. Gymnastics camp @ OSU sounds fun. I hope she has a great time!

On the way home we drove straight through. Not too bad of a drive except through the desert between Sacremento and LA. We left anaheim at 5 :00 am on a saturday and were in Corvallis by 8:00pm. It just depends on how fast you drive and how many stops. Hope you have a great time. Enjoy Corvallis also.
