I remember that used to be one of the highlights of the trip. Each time (usually near the end of the day), we would take a moment to check out the new displays that were promoting the newest movie, or whatever. They were never terribly impressive or technically advanced, but they were generally well done and fun to look at. I remember my favorite one was the Rhapsody in Blue window from Fantasia 2000 with the people crammed on the subway with their hands holding the rail above all wiggling together. It wasn't high tech, but it was fun.

For the 50th, they installed windows that were made up of set pieces from windows that had been built there dating back to the 50's. With a simple storybook window to explain them (in the most out of the way window), they recreated several vintage displays in each window.

That was three and a half years ago, and they're still there. They're not all working any more (Kaa doesn't move around to hypnotize Mowgli, who seems to be moving half the time at best), and they just look really really old and tired. The explination for them is out of the way and often unseen. There is nothing fresh or exciting about the windows, even though there are plenty of new movies coming out (every few months it seems) that they could promote there.

So that really makes me wonder if they are ever going to do anything with them. The Sleeping Beauty walkthrough is basically a very elaborate set of Emporium-style windows, which makes me think that there is a lot of potential to do some really impressive things on Main Street. Sure, it won't be as good because the space is much more limited, the lighting is uncontrolled and they would need to be installed overnight (maybe two or three if they're particularly elaborate, with curtains hanging during the day), but I know they can do better than what's there now.

One of my favorite things about the seasonal decorations is checking out how the different stores decorate their windows for the holidays. The Victorian takes on Halloween are a definate favorite, but every season allows some nice little changes to keep things fresh.

We know that they can do it, and they're doing it in other places in the park, which really makes me ask, will they ever update the Emporium windows again, or are we stuck with the 'nostalgic' windows that have become tired and stale forever?

I've also been curious as to why the same old, same old displays are front and center in the Emporium windows. They do seem to switch up one or two of them between the door (oh, shoot how do I explain it?)

The smaller windows have a sign for a current movie that's basically a movie poster, but done in layers to make it look more dimensional. It's made up of several layers of flats stacked in front of each other, sort of like a pop-up book. (It looks like hand drawn 3-D animation, if anybody's seen that). It's nice, but it certainly doesn't have the detail level that can even be found in the recycled windows. It looks like they just printed off several copies, and cut them in interesting ways, and installed them. Is that what you were thinking about?

At least the merchandise and seasons would get them to be updated fairly regularly. I've always thought the displays on Main Street were pretty classy, as far as most merchandise displays go.
