It looks like when you get into the longer stays, the tickets are more in line with WDW's prices, but I think that the short visit tickets are just insane. The AP prices seem high in comparison too.

I'm quite certain that they're trying to get away from the notion that DCA is a $20 add-on to a day at DL, and will be marketing that each park is a unique full-day experience. As such, fewer and fewer people should be buying the 1-day park hoppers.

As far as PAPs' go, that's a 30% increase overnight, and an over 80% increase compared to 5 years ago.

There are promotional prices now too which will probably be offered after the hike as well. Basically the promotional prices gets you a hopper for the 1 park per day price.

My first season pass December 2005 was $104 and went 20 days so just over $5 a day. My current pass was $199 and I will get 13 or 14 days on it so around $15 a day. The new price increase is steep ($70) but will only work out to about $5 a day more for me still not a deal breaker, in fact still one hell of a deal for me. This is my favorite place on Earth and 12 - 16 hour days in the 2 parks for $20 a day based on how many days I go in a year is pretty darn good. I still won't give them a penny for food considering how overpriced food is in the parks. Not happy about the price increase but can live with it.

Earlier today, when researching past DL ticket price increases, I uncovered that historically it's more or less standard procedure for DL to make ticket price announcements on a late Friday afternoon. I suppose that it's too late to be on that evening's news, and come Monday, too stale to report then.

If Disneyland management feels they can raise their prices to this level and the free market of free consumers will bear it, then they will raise their prices to this level. The bond market in Athens or the real estate market in Riverside be damned.

God knows the crowds in Disneyland haven't lowered any during the Great Recession; if anything, they have increased over the already strengthened numbers coming out of the 50th campaign of 2005-07. And DCA is heading towards peak crowds too after June 15th.

Mercedes raised the prices on their latest S Class sedan, and Lexus is coming out with a 100K sports coupe this fall. And yet the Great Recession rages on and threatens to get worse this year. But there are still millions and millions of consumers who are happy to pay for premium products. And $649 for a season pass to a really good theme park complex isn't any big deal.

Heck, there were a dozen people tonight who spent 500 bucks or more on a 4 course dinner for four at Morton's Steakhouse at South Coast Plaza, and no one is villifying Morton's or the people who dined there earlier tonight. A free market of free consumers can buy and sell whatever it wants, at whatever price it wants.
