But as long as I'm here, I should contribute. My friend's Dad has one, just got it less than a year ago. I often hear him bring up minor issues with it not doing this or that properly. He loves to record the NASCAR races whenever they're on, usually when he's at church with us. And he keeps talking about little issues he keeps having with it and would always be asking his wife or friends from church why it's not performing responding to this command or that command. But whatever it is it's probably just little things that are easily fixable.

If your cable box or sat box already has a dvr, you may think that the tivo is redundant. However, Tivo has a ton of great features.

I never have any problems with the thing at all.

You don't need direct tv to use it. You can use it with dish, cable, or just off the air. It has to be connected to your signal source to work.

It also needs either a broadband connection or a phone connection so it can download the upcoming tv listings (what you pay the monthly fee for).

It can work, but barely, without the fee. But it's a waste to get it without that.

Series 3 Tivos work with HD. And allow you to watch one channel while recording another.

    About it.

That plus the ability to pause a show whenever the need strikes, and the ability to skip through commercials, and it's just a no brainer. GET THE TIVO!!!

I also have it set to record any program on any of my 5,000 channels related to UFO's. Hey I like that stuff. I love mine, you should get it.

I still use a couple of vcr's, but it's really not the same. For instance, last night I used mine to watch the Cowboys/Packers game. I let it record for 30 minutes or so, so that I could then skip through the commercials quickly. Also I could replay any play that I wanted to see again. I stopped watching about halftime and went to bed, then watched the rest of the game this morning.

With a vcr you would pretty much have to record the whole game before watching it. A Tivo (or a Replay, the brand I have) lets you watch a show before it's done recording, which is very valuable.

Since I could never be bothered recording a show either, I'm getting to see a lot of TV I'd otherwise be missing. Not good for my social life perhaps, but I love it!

We were one of the first people to buy one. Back then it only had 8 hours of recording time. Now they have like 40 or 80 hours.

We love that we can watch our favorite program when we want. We no longer have to rush home to watch our favorite show.

Couple of Cons to having tivo. When you tell it to record a program and the network decides to start 2 minutes early or ends 2 minutes late. It doesn't record that 2 minutes.

other than that we haven't had any problems.

I really really hate this! I know some of the programming information comes in now with the correct times. But if it's a show that I absolutely must have, I set it to start 2 minutes early and 5 minutes late, just to be sure. And then with something like a football game that usually runs long, I just add 60 minutes to the end time, which works pretty well.
