Not to whine and complain, but I've HAD IT with mine....We were trying to have a nice family dinner the day after christmas when my sil little brats were emotionally abusing my child the ENTIRE time we were there....ya know like telling her to go away, ugly. You're stupid, we don't like you...all that lovely stuff. NO ONE is saying anything to them and I had been biting my tongue so hard I can't believe it wasn't bleeding, (wouldn't want to "redirect" someone else's kid and be all politically incorrect or anything...)So I had finally had it when she came over to them and said, "can I please play with you" and they said "NO GO AWAY WE DON'T LIKE YOU!" While "kicking" there feet at her...My little girl almost started to cry so I comforted her and said "you know that wasn't very nice you hurt her feelings.."and the oldest said "she didn't ASK to play with us" (BOLDFACED LIE!!!) So I calmly practically in a whisper said "that's not true, I was standing right here and heard everything." WELL...SIL came FLYING out of nowhere and yanked them upstairs while hysterically CRYING...CRYING??!!! A full grown 35 year old women HYSTERICALLY CRYING over this! Anyway, My mil yells AT ME!!!! Because, "NOW EVERYONE IS CRYING"...gimme a break, these people are crazy. Well, this has been ongoing and my husband and I have decided to have a sit down about it with my in laws...how uncomfortable, but necessary. Aren't people just so lovely during the holidays? Anybody else have any doozies this year?

It would seem that speaking to the SIL won't do any good, given her reaction and the reaction of the MIL. Even though it might cause friction, I would also suggest limiting your visits with them. If they ask why, you can tell them that their kids really hurt your child, and you can't allow that. Sure, they'll whine and moan and get angry, but you're protecting your child - she comes first. Good luck. /cs

To recap, it is this whipped cream thing with sour berries whipped in that is to be dipped on a flavor-less rolled up unsweetened flat waffle thing. She then made a comment that she really liked it and it was funny here on the boards. So, cut to our Christmas Day on Sunday. We've just had a lovely meal. Dad's wife starts to put out the desserts and I just dive for the chocolate chip cookies that my sister made. We make eye contact over the whipped pooh stuff and she asks me if I want some. In front of EVERYONE!!! It took every BONE IN MY BODY AND EVERY MUSCLE I COULD CONTROL to not burst into rip roaring laughter or to even make eye contact with her again. She just had that LOOK on her face like "I dare you to not laugh." I couldn't even look at her for like twenty minutes after that. The end.

No lost love at all. Not one bit.

We were there a total of oh 3 hours during which I was told that "all my problems would be solved if I turned to Jesus" and conversation over dinner was our lack of kids and how we were a discrace to the family (Mind you Dylans older sister has been married for 6 years with no kids... We are not even married yet) and many ways were suggested how to get the "ball rolling" (WAY to graphic for *ANY* conversation let alone DINNER) In the fact that we lost our last "attempt" last week- It was a little tough to take- Over dessert somehow my kids and my family were brought up and *that* opened a whole new can of worms .. Add to that their hatred of disney and how stupid it was- I was NOT a happy camper by the end of it... Luckily we were able to escape after dessert due to me having to "work" (apparently no one realized Walmart was closed on Christmas.....) It made my families fights over the last olives and who gets the first piece of pie realitivly tame... And for future parties.. I am now exempt from them -em

OK, first you have to realize that my SIL and her husband live with my in-laws. My SIL's husband is a devote vegitarian so in the idea of being a happy family under one roof there is no meat in the house. Also I make more than my SIL and her husband combined ( its amazing what you can do when you don't limit your career to bankers hours as they won't leave the house for work till after 10 am and will NOT work beyond 4:30 PM and absolutely will not work weekends or evenings. Anyway, most of the weekend conversation was about how the inlaws spent all this money having their boiler reworked ( really amazing actually ). They primarily heat the house with wood but have a oil boiler for back up heat. OK so here we go. The first floor of the house they keep at 66 degrees, the second floor ( where all the bedrooms are ) is kept at 60 degrees ). They will absolutely not raise the temp AT ALL. My mother-in-law HATES showers so there are NO showers in the house, only tubs. They have a 50 gallon eletric hot water tank. OK, ever try sharing 50 gallons of hot water for baths for six adults? My SIL husband was getting bent out of shape because at night we were watching anything other than the Classic Movie Channel. Sorry I wanted to watch the show on the gingerbread houses at WDW's resorts. Becides as a Christmas present every year the other half and I pay for the in-laws Satilite TV for $600. OK, so now we get to the food. We get there on saturday, so saturday night dinner is cold ham and biscuts. OK, now Christmas morning, cold ham and biscuts again. OK Christmas dinner/ lunch cold roasted pork loin and veggies. Christmas supper, cold ham and biscuts. Then we leave and they give us more ham to take home. I was jokingly saying to my other half that there is one thing that Furgie and I have in cold COLD FOOD at the inlaws. Someone once interviewed Furgie what the food was like at Buchingham Palace and her responce was "its always served cold". I realize they are trying to pinch pennys but hey I would give them $100 to heat the house for a few days. Becides they always go on expensive cruises for vacation each year. I have NEVER spent as much money on vacation at WDW that they spend on one of their cruises. I guess I will never understand other people priorities.

I could understand that if your going to smoke and its your house maybe limiting your smoking to one room or perhaps a couple rooms. But they were smoking EVERYWHERE and all the time, before meals, after meals. Then they would get up and smoke in the hall so the smoke would go up stairs and into ALL the bedrooms. When I would open the bedroom door in the morning there would be a wall of cigarett smoke billowing into the room. We have been home for a few days now and the other half is still coughing and hacking from the smoke. Had to wash all our clothes the night we got home as it smelled like we had staying in a nightclub for the past few days. I should also point out that the other half is a breast cancer survivor, yup guys get it too. And another SIL is currently dieing of ovarian cancer that spread. We were encouraging the SIL and her husband to get physicals, mamograms, whatever as my FIL died from throat cancer, MIL is a intestinal cancer survivor, my other half is one of four children and he is a cancer survivor and one sister is dieing of cancer. But the SIL and her husand refuse to have themselves checked.
