Then they did the celebrate today campain which its biggest perk was that you got in for free, once agian it did not work and caused a lot of headaces so they are retooling it for next year, this time with a diffrent theme but overall still having the biggest perk. When is disney going to get the point that these global celebrations are not working the fact that two years worth of promos took 4 due to disney trying to tweak it and it still not working says alot something that takes this long is pointless. these promos to me just seem to be a waste of time and moeny as clerly people are not knowing about them and should be done away with. whats wrong with just celebrating disneyland's 55th anniversary? honestly whats with the parks going global anyway, doesn't that seem stupid. you can't treat the parks the same becuase they aren't. They have diffrent types of guests and lure diffrent audeiecnes and also have very diffrent enviornments. plus it seems stupid money wise too. if you make disneyland a carbon copy of Magic kingdom , then people aren't going to go to one or the other. Obviously WDW and DL will always be diffrent in size, but it seems they are trying to make them as similar as possible and have the diffrences be in the second gates. but lets say hypotheicly there comes a day when DL and Magic Kingdom are mirror images of each other, Why would i waste money flying to WDW when I can just stay at DL and have the same expeiernce for cheaper. To me it seems odd that Disney; a company obsessed with money is ok with this busniess model which will cause them to only make like 200 bucks off of a person for going to one park ,when they cold eaisley make like 800 bucks by getitng them to go to 4 very diffrent disney resorts. why pay to go to all 4 when they are all the same. wierd move to me. any other thoughts?

I know a ton of people who went to DL on their birthday for free this year, who would have gone otherwise (and they also spent money while they were there). I have no idea if they were able to make up the money that they lost on the free admission by the food and merchandise those people bought, but the park has been busier than ever. I know that part of the original idea was for people to bring their friends/family with them, and they would have to buy tickets to get in, but most people I know just went with APers, so that didn't seem to happen as much. But on the other hand, it does seem like some of what they are doing as a combined unit is working out well. The Showboat Jubilee is great, and runs on both coasts quite successfully. Yes, they are singing it live in DL and only lip synching in WDW, but it's still a well done show, and I doubt that either one would be as good if it was produced entirely on its own. Other than that, we really don't have much to go off of yet. They are opening Toy Story Land in HKDL and WDSP around the same time, so I guess that could be considered a part of the Disney Parks branding, but I'm not sure how much power they have with the international parks. For the most part, I really can't say that I see a lot of differences. They cleared out some of the execs who do similar things, and consensed the heirarchy a little. The parks still do their own thing, and DL has run several promotions that just never happened in WDW (Rockin Both Parks, Indiana Jones summer, Halloweentime), without issues. I haven't seen a decline in quality in the parks that can be related to Disney Parks instead of the seperate resorts, but that's not to mean that there isn't one coming. I agree with you that the promotions are pretty lame, especially when they could spend the same time and money advertising things that are actually new and interesting (though I don't think WDW has added much recently), or relevant to the parks. As it's been now, DL has had some special event running continuously since 5/5/05, and WDW has had it going since 10/1/99. Some of the promotions have been meaningful (Millenium, 50th at DL), some have been a stretch (Walt's 100th birthday), and some have just been there to try and convince people to show up (YOAMD, Magical Gatherings, 50th in WDW). I'm fine with them running the promotions that really are special, but when they run them all the time, they miss the events that people really want to celebrate (DL's 55th, Epcot's 25th), and instead market some garbage that nobody really cares about. It covers up the meaningful anniversaries, and makes the important celebrations just seem like another meaningless promotion to get guests to show up and spend money.

The branding Disney Parks as one homogenous unit or the like completely misses the point that folks do NOT visit the 'Disney Brand' ... they visit DL ... or DLP ... or EPCOT ... or DAK etc ... Disney's parks aren't Walmarts, McDonald's or Starbucks ... and I firmly believe that's exactly what Iger/Rasulo/Staggs think. They think you can offer basically the same product across the board with a slight difference here or there ... look at some seasonal/regional offering at your local McD's as an idea as to what they think they can pull off. Apparently, this is the thinking behind the new AP for USA parks they've been working on ... or as I call it 'the DVCer special'.

Who told Rasulo this are these actual findings at the park or jus this mind set? I doubt there are enough people who have been to mulitple parks to know what they are missing or to have an idea like that and the ones that would would be fan bois like us and why the heck would we want that? Can't wait til there is a new CEO and heads of parks and resorts maybe this one wil lcare about the parks and one who will actually know what stuff is in which park

If the vast majority of guests visit only one of the resorts, then it's not losing much to treat them as interchangeable entities, especially when it comes to certain things like marketing and promotion. For example, it makes perfect sense to have a single nationwide advertising campaign to promote the US parks, and have a single vacation planning DVD that covers both coasts. What they had before where each resort had its own DVD and sometimes separate ads for each resort would happen to appear on the same TV show by chance was a waste of effort and money. This also necessitates that the annual promotions be the same so that there can be a single nationwide campaign. So be it. Having said that, that doesn't mean that everything at each resort or each park needs to be homogenized. There's certainly room for variation, and I think it would be bad business to ignore the differing realities of the customer base and how they visit the parks. For example, trying to come up with a single ticketing plan for both US resorts would likely be disastrous.
