Plagued by everything from park rules strictly governing conduct to wildly overpriced concessions, the Mahaffeys had hoped to lose themselves in a wonderland of fun, but were thwarted at every turn by the entertainment giant.

The Mahaffeys' dissatisfaction began soon after their arrival. Despite being in a huge, open park with dozens of attractions, the family was unable to roam freely, confronted at every turn by signs commanding them to remain on the clearly delineated brick-paved paths. This thwarted an unspoken but keenly felt sense of wanderlust in the family.

"There was a lot of gorgeous greenery, but most of it was roped off," said Amy Mahaffey, 34. "You could only leave the path if you wanted to go into a shop or café. It made me imagine some behind-the-scenes pencil pusher wanting to save the company a few bucks on sod and petunias, or to ward off potential injury lawsuits. I wanted to be a kid again, but I might as well have stayed at work."

The family also found itself put on edge by the passive-aggressive friendliness of park employees, or "cast members.">>

This makes me SO angry all OVER again about the loss of magic at WDW!!!

You're NO LONGER allowed to trample the foliage! HOW RIDICULOUS! If Disney is going to tell you where you can and canNOT walk, why don't they just give you an itinterary when you enter? "At 11:03 you will walk to 'Living Seas.' You will NOT step off pavement as you proceed. You will NOT deface topiary along the way. After experiencing LS, you will proceed to..."

This is Fascist. If I want to step off the path and ruin some bushes, it's my right to do it. I've paid them well to enter the Park. And what about my kids?! Am I supposed to tell them they can't deface some "icon"?! I don't think so. GET REAL, DISNEY!!! I can take my family to Universal instead!!!

"it's my right to walk on the bushes..or do this and that", then what will be next... killing another human and feeling it's your right to do so?

There has got to be limits, even if it means protecting the flowers.

The purpose of the trash picker uppers was not to pick up for the people who chose not to use the trash cans. (which they did...) But rather to keep the ground clean to encourage this "Use the Trash Can" message.

An overstuffed or dirty trashcan sends a "Don't use me" message.
