I had to go back and re-read the last topic on this just to make sure it didn't mention DL. It doesn't.

Good thing we're going in June. Bums the heck out of me. At least the kids will get to ride it one last time before they close it out. We'll be back in October for my daughter's birthday, tho. I wonder if the hubby is going to care that it's gone by then? Maybe I should tell him...

The load/unload bridges operate fundamentally differently between the two resorts.

How does that require 6 more weeks of rehab for the Disneyland version?

They're not when you're on them as a guest.

People have a misunderstanding of how the vehicle operate in general. They generally think they walk across the loading platforms on ground level and the vehicle rises up to be allowed enough space to move around. It doesn't.

The vehicle is sitting a couple floors up on the powered hydraulics of the arm underneath it in the "home" position. The vibration you feel at the start of the ride is not the vehicle moving into position but rather the bridges disengaging.

Feel free to look over the side of the bridge to confirm this anytime you want - there's a reason the space is black and the walkways have lighted panels. It's to keep you from looking over the edge and realizing you're pretty high in the air.

At WDW for both Star Tours and Body Wars the bridges are drawbridges. They fold up against the doors of the building essentially blocking them from being opened. At DLR they go sort of "up" instead - a space which seems to be of particular interest to the Star Tours 2 team.

They probably want to have Star Tours 2 open early enough so that they have time to promote it before they have to start promo's for TLM. They want each attraction to have its promo time but if they both open in the same time frame it will lead to a rivalry promo wise. In WDW they don't have this problem. So the sooner they start work on DL's Star Tours the sooner it is done, and it won't ride the coat tials of TLM or vice versa.
