Lassetter is directing, and he said:

"Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee, and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie—and I wanted to direct it myself.”

I'm torn between not making another movie and making another movie. TS3 had the perfect ending and it was one of Pixar's best movies. I love the TS Franchise, all three movies, and that's why I'm also happy that we will get another one.

Best news of the week. It keeps him from meddling in other areas when he is immersed in direction of a feature.

He'll be 60 in 2017 so it makes you wonder whether this will be his swansong.

Curmudgeons unite! I agree 100% with RT.

    Seen on Twitter:

The plot for Toy Story 4 will feature Hamm the piggy bank as executive turn him upside down and try and shake every last dime they can from him.

They're a nice enough way to spend 90 minutes, but I don't think that they're especially great. Each one was better than the previous one (the third was actually quite good) which gives me some hope for a 4th installment, but I agree that it just seems like they're doing this purely as a money grab.

Given how the last film concluded so nicely, it sort of makes me think that we will have a mostly-new set of characters. Whenever that happens in a franchise (or better yet, when they replace the actors and hope nobody notices), you know they've hit rock bottom

This was also my first thought when I heard the news last night. It seems like this would be the perfect feather in his cap while he bows out

I watched TS2 again not long ago, and among other things, it's just a perfectly paced picture.

The TS characters are strong enough that they COULD make another good movie with them. The shorts have been enjoyable. The Cars characters on the other hand are pretty much ciphers, and Cars3 I could definitely live without.
