Over the Labor Day weekend we will finally have some extra time in our day and are planning to hit the park. I'm hoping for some LPers help here with what direction to go, where to park and such. We really have no idea what we are getting into other than what is on their website. We will be starting from Anaheim, heading to Hollywood area for the weekend if that helps. Touristy things are fine and we are expecting crowds.

    Help please :)

The Griffith Park Merry-go-round is the very one where Walt's daughters would ride as daddy sat on a bench, eating peanuts and dreaming of something better. It is open selected days (check the web site for the date you will be there). Be sure to check out the really odd "Adam and Eve" sleigh seats, including one restored courtesy of the Walt Disney Family Foundation.

Over at the Los Angeles Live Steamers you will find Walt's backyard barn/workshop. The LALS is open every Sunday from 11-3 for FREE train rides on miniature locomotives. The barn is open FREE every third Sunday of the month. Inside there is a very nice historical exhibit, maintained by the Carolwood Pacific Historical Society.

Looks like we won't make Barn exhibit this time, but I think we could swing going on Sunday so we can do the train ride.

This will be fun :) Something new for us.

We went to the park with the old trains. Really interesting to see how HUGE they are and the park is free, we couldn't believe it. We did make a donation :)

We headed to the carousel and had a picnic lunch and watched the young families with their little ones having fun just rolling down the grassy slopes. It's like another world in the middle of LA. We rode on the carousel and sat on the bench and ate peanuts :):) I felt sorry for the banged up horses and thought of their counterparts in Disneyland. The Adam and Eve sleighs were quite odd!

We went up to the Observatory but couldn't find parking so we headed out. On the way to the hotel we passed the Church of Scientology and the Hollywood Tower Hotel :) Tourist perks!

We'll make time for the Live Steamers on another trip.

    Thanks again.
