This is one of those events that, for me, exemplifies the contrast between technical achievement and artistic expression. There is no question that the Space Shuttle is an amazing technical accomplishment. Even so, when you are watching that trail extend skyward, it has an emotional impact like nothing else. Originally Posted By danyoung I've told this story before. Years ago I was working at a corporate event at the Boardwalk. We were setting up video and sound equipment at 4am in the grand ballroom. Around 6:30 the local crew chief called a break and told everyone to head out to the loading dock. One of the local crew had a radio tuned to the NASA com channel, and we stood out there, listening to the chatter leading up to takeoff, and then saw the bird rising up over the trees. We watched until MECO (Main Engine Cutoff), and then the crew chief hollered "Break's over - back to work!" Very very cool. Thanks for posting the video!
