I mean, they actually managed to build the one rapids ride in the world that isn't actually all that fun. And while I respect the detail that went into Hamarabe, I have a lot more fun on the Jungle Cruise. My guess is that AK is taking the brunt of the losses to Potter--anecdotally, it seems the most expendable WDW park. A couple hundred extra people every night--AdvClub fans are nothing if not loyal--multiplied by 365 could probably pad the attendance numbers at the end of the year.

As said, it needs some whimsy and some fantasy. EPCOT gains that mood from the way some attractions are presented, and honestly, probably because it, too, has it's nostalgia.
