Does anyone know which is the better phone? Is it worth switching over and paying more?

I've heard the G1 is nice hardware, but the software needs work (It's a first iteration though so I don't think the rough edges are surprising). Actually the hardware for the Storm, according to the review, is quite nice too, but the software kills the deal.

You might consider the Samsung Behold too BriGuy its the other new touch screen phone we just got. Its pretty cool too but I still like my G1 better.

The G1 is on a new OS. it is a good phone and the OS is very good for what it can do now and in time additional apps and features will grow that OS to a very large piece of the phone market. Just like the iPhone, it had limited features/apps at first and did them quite well and now there is more external support and you can do even more. The G1 will get there one day.

if you want a phone that will work and has an established record, go with the blackberry. If you want a good phone that will come into its own and you like to mess around with the phone alot go with the G1. Just like the iPhone, neither phone is for everyone and depending on your confort level either one will impress or frustrate you.

Some will say that one interface is better than the other. I personally did not like the interface of the G1. I found it rather dull and difficult to navigate. But I also feel that way about Blackberyy and especially dislike windows mobile. I have always liked the Palm OS and of course the iPhone OS.

hardware wise, both phones will do what they need to do it just comes down to what you are willing to learn for the OS to work for you.

Hope I havent confused you too much.

For new iPhone customers, there is a learning period that can be frustrating, but when it's over, the phone is a blast.

I do wish it had Flash.

Other phones can do it and usually there is a cost associated with it from the carrier. AT&T currently does not allow it to be done on the iPhone and they did say when they do allow it, it will cost $30 a month and have a cap on bandwidth.

But if you jailbreak the iPhone there is an app in Cydia called PDANet, that does the same thing for free. Its really only helpful if you take your laptop and dont have internet connection. So if your at a coffee shop, instead of paying for their wi-fi, I will teather to the phone and off I go.

I dont use it for large downloads or anything, just simple browsing and live coding. Stuff like that. Text uses small amounts of bandwith vs images, flash and file transfers.

if your carrier notices a large amount of bandwidth from the iPhone, they know its really hard to do that on the iPhone so they know your teathering and might come after you. Its really a game of cat and mouse. But no different than using IM, so you dont have to use up your texts etc. Plus it has the added bonus of being convenient and easy to use, at least between my iPhone and my Blackbook.

I have heard tell iPhone OS updates "seek and destroy" modified iPhones. True?

As far as the OS seaking out hacks, it doesnt do it actively, but with each official update, they try to close the holes that allowed the people to jailbreak in the last version. But it seems now that as soon as the new update is seeded to beta testers, it is hacked before it is officially available.
