There was something about watching the photo-illuminescent markings on the side of the "rockets" whiz by over head while waiting in line. The open queue also gave an impression of the vastness of space that set the tone for the ride. I never thought the enclosed queue at DL gave quite the same build up to the ride itself.

One of the weakest aspects of WDW's Space Mountain to me was how visible most of the track was compared to the other versions around the globe. I love how dark Disneyland's is since its last overhaul a few years ago when they closed off its queue area. Hopefully this change helps correct the issue at WDW.
