Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

The Howard Johnson is a sponsor of the board, and very popular here.

Limited Service Hotel, interior coridors, nice grounds, large rooms, great pool/water play areas and great staff. No Room Service or Bell Hops though. (No hidden fees, parking and internet included in the room price).

Close, Park Vue Inn and the Best Western Park Place Inn are the two closest motels to the park entrance, even closer than the GCH.

Extended Stay, I like the Residence Inn Maingate next to the new Anaheim GardenWalk. Nice large rooms with a full kitchen, plus free breakfast and some selected light dinners.

Some folks like the Candy Cane Inn, an older 2 story Motel that has very nice grounds and free breakfast. The rooms tend to be smaller than most.

Looking for a full service Hotel with Room Service and Bell Hops, the DoubleTree on Harbor and the Sheraton Park get high reviews and are "walkable", though about 1 mile each way (so a long walk).

Lots of great reviews can be found here...

And also don't forget the Garden Grove Hotels near the corner of Harbor and Chapman.

I had been reviewing that one but seems a little far if we want to walk that's why I was considering the Anaheim Marriott by the convention center. I've never ventured out much from Disneyland so not sure on the proximity for walking purposes. (We are from Oregon.) I don't like dealing with shuttles and have been used to walking when staying at the Disney hotels. I'm just tired of paying those prices.

One nice advantage about staying at either one of these places is the close proximity of the Garden Walk and all of it's restaurants, (please correct me if I am wrong about that DB).

If you end up staying at either one of these places check with BOTH hotels as to which ART bus line they are on.

The last time that we stayed at one of them, we found out that (at least at that time) the Marriott and the Hilton are on different lines-meaning that you could use EITHER ART line to get back to your hotel.

It doesn't matter to ART at all which trolley you ride and sometimes if you miss one trolley you can just hop on to the other.

On our last trip we stayed at GCH, so this will be a change of pace for me. However, since I am treating my best friend this time, I can't afford to stay on site.

You can possibly get the Hilton, Marriot, or my favorite, Hyatt Regency through Priceline for cheap. Check out biddingfortravel.com.

I was told by their call centre they're changing reservation systems over. So your reservation may be slightly changed or doesn't appear on your web account (has happened more than once to me). Also when you check out make sure the rate hasn't changed. If it changes call either the SPG Gold line or Platinum line (If you're eligible for it) ask to speak to the complaint department or get them to call the hotel directly to fix the rate if front desk is unwilling. They have good hotels but their system seems to be substandard.
