I have no doubt the people who worked on the film are talented. I love Michael Shannon. Not a big Zach Snyder fan, though. I just have zero interest in yet another movie about some guy in tights saving the world. I am exhausted by superhero movies. Since 2005, we've had multiple Superman movies, multiple X-Men, multiple Spiderman, multiple Iron Man, multiple Hulk, multiple Batman (my favorites of these), multiple Fantastic Four. We've had Captain America, Watchmen, Thor, Green Lantern, Green Hornet, and Hellboy. There are already sequels made for Thor and Captain America and Wolverine. That's in addition to another X-Men movie being planned and another Avengers and another Spiderman and a Justice League movie. Oh, and did I mention the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Fantastic Four reboots for 2014 and 2015? Uncle! Uncle! What really sucks is all these movies are basically the same. They look the same. They feel the same. They follow the same basic plot structure and plot points.

This may not fit the bill as well as Iron Man 3, but then again it might. I hear they have made some very interesting casting choices. A little MCU trivia. My understanding of the X-Men/Wolverine franchise is that if Fox continues to make a movie every few years they retain rights to the characters. If they go more than, I'm guessing the exact number here, 5 years without churning out something in the X-Men universe the rights revert to Marvel and Disney gets a crack at them. I am somewhat afraid that this forced production output will negatively effect the quality and fun factor of the movies. But for now X-Men Days of Future Past looks very promising, if awfully bloated character wise.

So far from what I've seen from the trailers it seems like they may have finally gotten right with the Man of Steel since the first two Christopher Reeve films.

How many times do we have to see the origin stories of these characters told again? I get that it's a new interpretation, but we've seen it so many times now. We know how Superman came to be...can't we just have stories from the decades of comic books? Everybody knows him by now, we don't have to see him grow up and get all angsty. They did this recently with Spiderman too, and...they are rebooting Batman AGAIN! So soon after the Dark Knight series, they're going to retell it once more. Thankfully, they thought better of releasing it so soon, so it got put on hold, but it's still coming. I would just like to see us progress beyond the origins of the characters to get into the sometimes great stories from the comics they came from.

Do you really prefer to watch Jaws at home or in a theatre?

But do we really have to go through the whole story we already know yet again? I'd like it if they just picked up when Superman is here already and build an adventure around that. The Christopher Reeve version told the origin very well, it still holds up, plus Smallville covered much of this as well. Move forward. Cut to the chase... er, flying.

I'm also a bit put off by the casualness of the death and destruction that does happen. "Hey, we knocked down a few buildings, blew up a few things, but it all worked out, right?" It's why I do like Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. Real loss. Real danger. No super powers. At the end of Rises, I had no idea if Batman was dead or alive. I can't say that for Superman, Spiderman, Ironman, or Anyotherman.

Agreed with the origin story arguments though - these days, that's just a copout and boring, because who DOESN'T know the setup? Cut to the flying indeed. That'd be a good aim for the next director of whichever reboot comes along, if he/she had the guts (looking at you Abrams - we don't need any Star Wars backstory thanks, and we ESPECIALLY don't need any references to crap that happened before Luke was even born when the galaxy was so much cheesier and full of inept Jedi).
