So, you might want to check your facts on that. Fess Parker actually made appearances as Davy Crockett in Frontierland. And there was also a Zorro and shootouts.
Statues of Davy Crockett and his buddy, played by Buddy Ebsen, were also in the Fort on Tom Sawyer's Island.
And I'm sure Indians stayed right by the banks of the Mississippi back in the day and waved to passengers on steamboats.
(I am saying with as much sarcasm as I can muster in a post.)

By the way, Pecos Bill, the cartoon character, was the basis for part of the original Golden Horseshoe Revue.
I miss that show, even when it played in Florida.

    Stuff happens.

I bet the Pocohontas overlay for the Friendly Indian Village would have been nicely done and popular, at least for a few years when the movie was still fresh.

This is really not a smart statement. As others have mentioned, Walt Disney based the land on Disney stuff from the very beginning.

"No toons" is not the same as "no Disney!", and Frontierland is no exception (granted, in the Disney iteration Pocahontas is a toon...but still a real life figure).

As for Jim's reference to a pocahontas village along the ROA - how much could that cost really? Swap out the teepees for some rounded huts, and throw in a couple of static figurines. Doesn't sound like much of a budget buster to me.

But the window for this has come and gone. It wouldn't make much sense to do it these days. I don't think they have a lot of pocahontas merch to peddle - just the one DVD that's fifteen years old.

Actually she does traipse around, in Tokyo Disneyland (particularly Critter Country).

This past summer and fall she was out in Frontierland quite a bit.
