I don't need a table service dinner every day, but I thought it would be nice to have at least one in each park. I've read other topics about it but I wondered: if you say a restaurant is expensive, what do you mean? What price can we expect for a dinner at the different table service restaurants in the parks?

O, BTW, we are staying at the Palm & Fountain Terrace Hotel. Anyone stayed there? How did you like it?

They also offer several set menus seasonally, depending on special events and times at the parks... In terms of US$... I would say that a sit down restaurant at TDR will set you back on average about $40-60 per person, depending on where you eat and what you get. Remember also... the food portions in Japan (and especially TDR) are smaller that what we are used to getting in the US parks... so be prepared to spend a lot of $$ on food.

Honestly... if you want to experience a nice meal in a true Disney ambiance..
at TDL, I suggest the Queen of Hearts Banquet hall.
At TDS, the Portofino Cafe, Zambini Bros are great counter options... Magellan's and Ristorante di Canaletto are great sitdown places.

Also keep in mind, the amount and variety of food options at TDR is staggering... you will be equally satisfied by the different culinary choices available to you from most counter servive restaurants and even snack places. The only downside is the small portions.

    Have fun!

    LOL!

My Japanese friends are always commenting on how LARGE our portions are in America (and probably behind our backs how LARGE Americans are!). I think a direct comparison of the body types in Japan vs America clearly reflect "portion sizes" in the two contries.

Even though like may Americans I would benifit from the Japanese portion sizes, I do prefer our portion sizes here!

    USA! USA! USA!

    ROFLMAO!

It's not just the size of the portions, but the whole attitude toward food. Check this one out:

    <a href="http://fosta.typepad.com/sleepinginmyhead/images/dsc00172.jpg" target="_blank">http://fosta.typepad.com/sleep
    inginmyhead/images/dsc00172.jpg</a>

It's a vending machine in Japan that sells regular-size and 500ml cans of Coke right next to each other for the same price. You'd never see this in America, as an American would probably think "Why would ANYONE buy the regular one when they can get the extra-large one for the same price?" I would guess that in Japan, it's not uncommon for someone to think "The small one is all I want, so why get more?"

I agree, the portions in America are stupid. Utterly beyond any of any sort of "normal" meal volume for a human. If you're serving three, or perhaps a growing pony, you've come to the right place.

On the other hand, Japan does tend to be WAY too small sometimes (it's funny, the portions of Japanese food do NOT seem that way usually, only Western cuisine seems to be served in tiny portions). Queen of Hearts, while lovely and tasty...do expect to have to get all the side dishes and salads and whatnot if you expect to be close to "full", and it's all a la carte so it adds up.

Europe sounds just right to me too Dave. I heard the food in England ain't that good though?? (I have no idea, I'm just reporting what I've been told)

If you're concerned about volume, or want a fixed price or whatever, you have buffet options in the Crystal Palace at Disneyland and Sailing Day Buffet at DisneySea (both hotels offer all you can eat buffets too, at higher prices).

And this is coming from someone with a very small appetite. Sailing Day Buffet definitely offered the most value out of the restaurants I dined at. I was overstuffed to the point of feeling sick :S

I've only been there for breakfast (which is NOT an all you can eat deal, but quite tasty and fun with the characters).

Last time we were at TDL we didn't eat lunch and by mid-afternoon were pretty starving.

We happened to go into the Queen of Hearts, which I do enjoy, but if you're super hungry I wouldn't recommend it. We ordered quite a lot of food, spent a lot, and after had to head to Tomorrowland for hamburgers!

We realized shortly after that Crystal Palace would have been a much better choice money wise and considering our appetites at the time.

I consider Queen of Hearts more of a "splurge", where you go in and just get a whole bunch of side dishes and salads and deserts and all that, not worrying about the money (it can add up fast!).

Does the Crystal Palace also offer all you can drink iced tea, like the Sailing Day Buffet does?

I think I shall have to eat there, next time I'm around (after the HOT HOT summer is over, probably!!!!).

You should visit Prague where standard portions are simply huge.

<< I would recommend Magellan's in Tokyo DisneySea for a table service restaurant. >>

Don't know about portions, but their desserts are fantastic.

I recommended the Crystal Palace to my family one day while we were looking for a place for dinner, but they still picked the Sailing Day Buffet because of its reliable food choices. I'm sure the Crystal Palace was great, but they didn't want to try someplace new and risk not liking it.

Agreed. The desserts are simply delicious. And for our main course, we had a wagyu steak (kobe beef) that was simply perfect and to die for. It was the highlight of our dining experiences in the resort.

It certainly was true 20 years ago (and sometime now). But there are some great restaurants in the UK now (even though the best ones tend to be Indian!!!). I am not a huge fan of British food, prefering Mexican, BBQ, Italian, Russian or Asian - Indian, Chinese, Japanese.

But the British have fantastic breads and cheeses (more varieties than I have seen in any country I have travelled), great (cooked) fish dishes, and a wonderful thing called a cream tea.

But remember I said European, not British (they overcook everything in the UK!!!!).
