We usually just to counter service meals, nothing too fancy, so I wanted to do something special this trip. I gave the kids a choice between this and a character meal and they chose this (I think the characters scare my 5 year old, even though she won't admit it) Am I wasting my time here, or will they like it?

My kids loved Blue Bayou, which surprised me. I thought they'd be uninterested. Not that the food in the resort is off the charts, four-star restaurant quality either. But it's better than this. I think you're much, much better off with a character meal or another sit-down meal somewhere. And if it helps, my kids are 5 and 6, both boys, and I was certain they'd love Rainforest.

If you think the other kids might like the characters Minnie and Friends (minnie, pooh, eeyore, fairy godmother, tigger were who we saw there last time), or Ariels (princesses come to your table one at a time), or Storytellers (chip and dale, koda) would be a good option. All these have seating that if the kids didn't want to interact they wouldn't have to. Also they aren't as busy as goofy's kitchen.

Anyone know of any alternatives at DLR that are toddler friendly without having to sell your firstborn to pay for it? I guess if I'm going to be cheap, I can't have my $100 cake and eat it too.

With the animals and thunderstorms, there is lots to keep the kids occupied while you wait. Unless you are looking for somewhere quiet to eat, as that place does get loud! The portions are large(can be shared). I like Rainforest, but I find that the selection is where they are lacking. Not that there are not enough things to choose from, but I wish they had some different things (higher quality steak and seafood, for example). And, in the end, I think it is a lot cheaper than Goofy's Kitchen or the other character dining. (I'm not a big fan of the fixed price per person thing they do)

The service my family got was outstanding and we will definitely be eating there again soon.

The food is only fair, but if your kids are eating off the kids menu, the options are pretty much the same everywhere on the kids menu, like a pizza option, chicken strips, mac n cheese, burger. I'm sure that's what you'll find there too. It's all about the atmosphere and my kids love it. I think you'll be hard pressed to feed a family of 5 at Disneyland with a sit down meal that's under $100 with tip.
