That is the easy way, but I presume you won't be by yourself, so here is a way to avoid some of the LA traffic by using the Carpool lanes.

Take I-5 to the LA county line (basically you go past Magic Mountain and Santa Clarita, and go down the hill).

Watch for the split, and take the 405 south, and get into the carpool lane.

You will take this lane until the I-10, and then merge into the regular traffic (no carpool lane) until LAX, then take the 105 east. Once again, get into the carpool lane. Take the 105 all the way to its end, and then go on the 650 south for a few miles (regular lanes).

Take the 91 east, and get back in the carpool lane. take this to the special 5 south carpool exit. It will place you on the I-5 carpool lane (The is no carpool lane on I-5 north of the 91).

Get off on the special Disenyland Drive carpool exit.

This should save you time, as the I-5 can be a big mess most of the time.

BTW - I just drove down yesterday and back today. Not one single mile of stop and go on I-5.

Note also that Darkbeer's route doesn't include actually taking the 10; I think he just noted that the 405 carpool lanes end when you cross the 10.

If it was me, I'd take the straight 5 route if it was non-rush hour, even though that's taking a chance. I'd take Darkbeer's if it was anywhere near morning or afternoon rush, assuming you have at least one passenger and can use the car pool lanes. Either way, traffic can be capricious and you NEVER know when you might get stuck.

We have learned that once you get off the Grapevine that we say in the fast lane or the lane next to the fast lane and it gets us there with no problems with out having to change lanes all the time. You will notice that you will always have to be in the left lanes to keep on 5 so that is why we stay in the fast lane that is usually not very fast. lol I hope that makes some sence. There is also a carpool lane once you get close to the park and you can take the Ball or Disneyland exit. Very easy to take.
