Remember the story about Iger being at HKDL on Opening Day and seeing the Chinese children all respond wildly to the Pixar characters in the parade but kind of sit there non-plussed when the traditional Disney characters went by?

Besides, at the size being planned, it should be a full park upon opening and definitely worth a trip, though going back to Shanghai is not something I particularly look forward to! Shanghai has an enormous population--it's one of the largest cities I've ever seen. You can drive for HOURS and still not get from one end to the other. It shouldn't have the attendance problems Hong Kong Disneyland has.

Since middle-aged and elder Chinese grew up isolated from traditional Disney culture they would not know White Rabbit from Br'er Rabbit.

I know Hunchback was held in very low regard in France, and Aladdin caused a lot of negative feelings among Arab sources. From the Main Street clone in Tokyo to the wild west show in Paris, I think people like going to a stylized American themed park. As long as it has local food. I think we can expect any new park in Asia to be over the top Disney. Like what we've read about Hong Kong's Small World. Winnie the Pooh's Fantasyland. Adventureland Starring Captain Jack Sparrow. Buzz and Stitch's Tomorrowland. Oh, I'm sorry, that's Disney World.
