Some people on that 'other' website seem to think that they are going to be columns for a boardwalk in front of the current amphitheater, but I'm not sure about that. If they are doing a boardwalk (basically a wooden extension of what's there, nothing fancy), I would think that they would not have it come out quite that far. Also, if they're only acting as columns, they are huge to support a structure the size of a little boardwalk. They're about the same size as freeway columns (that hold 3-4 lanes of concrete, steel, and traffic), as compared to the much more reasonably sized columns holding up the walkway by Screamin' (about the size of telephone poles). They could be pulling double duty and working as both, but I would bet that the primary function is the lighthouses that hold equipment for the show.
