Lots of CMs make the show at DL more magical and intimate by including a certain spark. That's why we return from NJ when WDW is a lot closer to home.

At Coke Corner, he stopped and chatted with me and my dad (Dad's first visit in 30 years) and did some character voices/jokes.

I only hope he'll be assigned to the HM sometime when we're there... Would love to see him in THAT action!

An Attractions Host (ride operator) should never be equated to a profesional stage performer like Wally Boag or Rod Miller. The role of Attractions Host/Hostess is an important and vital one, and they certainly play a part in bringing the great Disneyland Show to life. But their role is not the same as a stage performer, in much the same way an Attractions Host should not be up changing lightbulbs or mending animatronic costumes or playing the trumpet with the Disneyland Band.

Maynard was cast in the role of Attractions Host. He often crosses way over the line of that purposely defined role. He keeps the AP's entertained who have become so familiar with Disneyland that they need something unusual to bring it back to life for them. But for the average visitor, Maynard being Maynard can be confusing and muddies the message of the Disneyland Show.

When Maynard first started at Disneyland, guests flooded Guest Relations with compliments for the guy. Almost immediately, he had an article written about him in the line.

Then when new Tomorrowland opened, he was highlighted on the cover on the Line.

While he may have been annoying some of his fellow Cast Members with his conduct, clearly the Company (at that time) valued his ability to get guest compliments more.

He'll end up being an interesting footnote in the history of Disneyland. I don't know if another regular Cast Member will ever be as famous as him.

Basically, there are two ways to get fired.

1. You are late and call out waaaaaay too much.
2. You send a text message On Stage and get caught.

Other than that, it takes a heck of a lot to get someone that has been there as long as Maynard fired.

What, they don't fire people for theft anymore? That used to be the second thing. Theft can include taking something out of the trash backstage that someone else put there... like a temporary (posterboard) special event sign, or something.
