They don't follow this stuff really closely, so when they were in line for the ride, they asked the CM: "so are these the new cars"?

CM: "No, no. These aren't new. But you'd better ride this while you can because in January they are closing it for 18 months."

My mom: "18 months? Really? Is that when they are putting in the new cars?"

CM: "I don't know any of the specifics, all I know is that they told us the ride shuts down in January for 18 months."

I have got to think this CM was either completely out of his mind, misinformed, or pulling my mom's leg. 18 months just seems ridiculous.

    Thoughts???

I wouldn't rule it out, but Matterhorn just went through a major cleaning and refurb two years ago, I don't think they would do it again. My only thought is the new cars may need a new track installed....? But until I hear it from the horses mouth or at least hinted by by insiders I wouldn't worry to much about it.

The Abominable Snowman at Disneyland is named Harold, a name chosen by the CM's who really seem to adore him when you talk to the Matterhorn CM's. The Yeti in WDW has no name apparently, and when I asked the CM's working Everest last year about it I got two blank and humorless stares like so many of the CM's out there who seem to have the personality sucked out of them by a combination of terrible humidity and the staid WDW Marketing Department that controls everything there and sucks any attempt at wit or style into the massive air conditioning systems there.

But at Disneyland, we have Harold. And he's not a Yeti.

Seriously, they've got this giant snow monster in their ride for the past five years and they've never named the thing?!? What the heck do they talk about in the break room then? The latest DVC expansion?
