My first day on the job at the MK I was being trained at the Jungle Cruise when our Lead got a call that Pirates needed assistance with an evacuation. Jungle Cruise always assisted with that because of the large show building and relatively small staff compared to our attraction.

So, they grabbed a bunch of us and we were ushered through the building, behind the scenes, to different places where we assisted folks getting out of the boats and to emergency exits.

The cause of the evacuation was a guest who was injured when he jumped out of a boat to retrieve his wife when she jumped out of the boat prior to the small descent hill. She got scared and jumped. When he jumped in he got caught between two boats and I believe he ended up with a broken leg.

Enough guests still pop out of slow moving ride vehicles and with insurance companies getting more and more squeamish I think restraints are only a matter of time.

I agree that safety restraints will probably be added to these types of rides in the future. And I also predict that there'll be a thread here with 200+ posts complaining about it.

All we need to fix this is a law that says that the ride operator and manufacturer have no liability for injuries sustained when a guest willingly exits the ride vehicle while the ride is operating, and eliminate this nonsense that the ride should be designed with the anticipation that people will choose to get out of a moving vehicle. It's unlikely to happen, of course, but that's the way it will be when I become king.

On the bright side, I guess it's not just Americans who can't follow simple instructions

Over the summer I was on a whale watch and a couple of Euro-kids, teenagers and real punks, were standing at the bow. Keep in mind this was a real rough day on the sea and the ship was SLAMMING people around. The instructions were clear from the crew, ONE HAND on a rail and TWO FEET on the deck at all times, for safety.

These punks were holding on to the siderails and letting their feet rise right off the deck every time the ship slammed down. They had no idea how easily they could've ended up in the drink.

I put a stop to it real quick. Not because I gave a crap about the kids, but because I didn't want my damned whale watch to be cancelled on their account!

Stupid is as stupid does, I guess.

    >>>Good news about the young child who had an accident in DLP Pirates of Caribbean as he is apparently now out of the hospital with small wounds and even went back to the Santa Fe hotel before going back home safe, with his father. The father admit that what happened was due to a lack of vigilance from him and, as i thought, the accident happened at the arrival before the complete stop of the boat, just before the AA pirate skull head... precisely asking guests to remain sitting.<<<
