Like I mentioned we were making really good time, but at 3pm we got a little excitement just before Beaver, UT. (insert Beavis and Butthead laugh here). They had to close I-15 because of wildfires so we were diverted to I-70 West, then to state highway 89 south and then back to I-15 again just before Cedar City. Since I've made this drive about twelve times I don't pack a road atlas, and the only map in the car is of the LA area. I had planned on filling up in Cedar City (about 70 miles south) so I was at only a half tank of fuel with no clue where the next town was. A little neverous, I called a buddy back home once I got a cell signal and found out there were indeed several small towns along 89 (that area looks frightenly unpopulated from the inital detour point). We skipped the gas stations at the first two towns as the lines were backed up quite a ways but still made it to fuel up at a T/A truck stop once we made it back to the interstate. (Sidenote: once we made it back to a point where they were allowing South bound traffic to get back on the I-15 the north bound traffic must have backed up bumper to bumper for three miles as they were detoured!) So, essentially it took three hours to go about seventy miles.I read later that four people died in two accidents due to the smoke. Terrible. I was tired by the time we hit Vegas at about 8pm. That's probably my least favorite time of our yearly drives. Vegas traffic after 11-14 hours of driving gets old quick, even at 8pm on a Sunday! We made Primm and Buffalo Bill's not too long after. Staying in casino's on the way to DL is weird. DD-17 says the casino's are kinda the opposite of DL Part two soon...
