It's launching now!! How cool is this? This sort of thing hardly ever happened back in Rochester, MN. I told all the folks nearby that "Disney had arranged this shuttle launch just for their July 4th visit to Epcot!"

It sets off car alarms every where.

However, I was a basketcase because my parents decided we should eat at 1900 Park Fair before we went, and on the monorail ride over, they were doing testing so it took longer. I was so afraid we wouldn't get there in time. We made it but only with about 20 minutes to spare. A couple years later, we saw another launch, but this time from the roads in WDW. DH was with us that time, so he did get to see it, but he missed out on the ground shaking, and the noise. We were at Castaway Cay when the Columbia did not make it home. We were hoping to get off the ship and go to the Space Center for the day in the aftermath of a successful trip, but that did not happen. But now my parents live there, and we have friends that live in Rockledge, so we hope that there will be many opportunities for him to see one.

The monorail driver came on the intercom and announced that it was visible from the Monorail. We actually came to a stop and watched for several minutes before pulling into the Epcot station. I have promised DH that at some point we will try and time a visit so that he can see an actual launch. Fingers crossed for a successful mission and reentry.

Including in the subject line "Visible at Epcot" was a ploy to keep it in the WDW section because you only post in that section.
