He hasnt got out of bed for days now, when my Mum asked him today why when she visited, he said it was his only remaining pleasure to be comfortable. He gets carers in 3 times a day for 15 minutes at a time, which is clearly not enough. He is being re assessed on Monday to see if he needs more specialist care.

He is getting all mixed up about things. His son died of cancer 10 years ago, he has told everyone that he died in a car crash 3 years ago with his daughter in law.( she died 3 years ago,as did my grandma ...(his wife)...not in car crashes)

Its so sad, my step Dad said he looks to have lost about half a stone in weight since he saw him last weekend.

They recommended that he go in a care home, but for some reason, after assessing him 2 weeks ago, they then said he would be ok at home...

    clearly thats not right.

It's so hard when they are this age and we went thru a similar experience with Barry's Nan.

The thing we found is they have the ability to perk up when visitors come, so when they are being assessed they look and act normal, once they leave they are back the not being able to cope by themselves.

It's so tricky and I'm sending you hugs to help you through!

There are some real difficult decisions that have to be made in cases like your grandfather's and a care home is not a decision taken lightly.

However, if you would like an alternaive assessment and some advice on how your grandfather can be supported, please feel free to give me a call.

Also, what local authority does he live within?

He lives on the East Coast Dave, near Scarborough. Thank you for the offer, we will see what they say tomorrow first. They suggested a specialist team comes in to help him, the ones who come now cant get him to do things they know he is capable of.

As I say it seems he has just given up .

His cleaner rang my mum to say she had done her best at his house to clean, but my mum is taking the day off work today to go and help. She isnt looking forward to it obviously.

At least now we know what is happening, he is booked to go for a scan.So hopefully he will get help. It explains why he has felt so bad and not been eating though.
