The grand is a beautiful hotel, with the perfect location, however, the pool and theming is much more Disney oriented at the DLH. I've known people to be dissapointed at the DLH, and I haven't heard one complaint at the Grand. If I had a choice, I would choose the Grand. If I were doing the DLH again, I would for sure request the Sierra Tower, DTD view. Big room and a super view. I really like them both.

It's just a brilliant hotel to stay at with many benefits and is so beautiful.
It's where we will stay on our next trip.

Last Christmas we stayed at the PP with concierge and much preferred this over the DLH.

In fact I agree with dave, the DLH could be any hotel, anywhere.

It has more variety, beautiful grounds, larger rooms, better views, only slightly less service, and costs A LOT less.

Especially when the Grand has some guests sleeping in SLEEPING BAGS!

I'm sure your son will enjoy the boats, pool and exploring the falls and "caves" at DLH :) Now that the monorail is back on a good schedule you can use that to save some walking. FYI the entrance to the monorail in Disneyland has moved to where the exit has always been. One ramp down and one ramp up. We were confused the first day so thought I'd mention it :)

No doubt the location of DGC is the best...we have had times at the DLH when the monorail isn't working and the walk back can seem long at the end of the day!

But, my kids prefer the DLH even with the walk. The pool is a blast, the courtyard is beautiful, there is more shopping, Goofy's Kitchen is wackier (and more fun, IMHO) than Chip & Dale's breakfast at the GC, we like the coffee shop better, and the overall feeling is more "being a kid again" as opposed to sophistication. Most of the time we aren't looking for sophistication; we're more the eating- frozen-bananas-and-wearing-Mickey-ears crowd!!!

On the other side, when we took relatives who were new to Disney and freaked about the crowds, DGC was the perfect escape.

As far as PPH, we've been twice and probably won't go back if we have a choice. It was fine but not nearly as fun as the DLH and close to the same price.

Our next trip is 130 days away -- we're going with the DLH for the above reasons and the $$ savings...
