I didn't know if you Star Trek fans here got wind of this last week ....

but because of the Writer's strike ... Paramount does not have much of a summer '09 line-up.

So even though the much anticipated Star Trek film will be ready for it's original December 25,2008 debut .....

We will have to wait another six months .. as they want this to be their big summer '09 blockuster! I believe it will be Memorial weekend in May.

    1) Level 1 is co-financing STAR TREK. A big chunk of their money comes from Adam Sandler. His "You Don't Mess With The Zohan", was scheduled to be released by Sony Pictures, right opposite STAR TREK. There was no sense it opening both at the same time, considering he's got big money in both.

That's right, you have Adam Sandler to thank for STAR TREK. Something very weird about that.

But the truth ALSO is that the script had problems, and this gives them time to reshoot. Want proof of that? All the sets are still standing, and when shooting wraps in April, a lot of those sets will STILL be standing. Reshoots will probably commence within just a few weeks, if not right away, on scenes that weren't quite right during the regular schedule, but, due to the strike, could not be fixed at the time.

In any event, this movie has to be good... as close to perfect as possible, and the extra time is nothing but a good thing.

That would tend to make some sense as it would likely be difficult to pass either Nimoy or Shatner off as being younger than they were in the earlier films.

    Ah. Makes sense then.

You obviously never saw that Boston Legal episode featuring a young Shatner. Freakin amazing!

They can do anything with computers these days.

In fact, I'm surprised they recast the thing at all (unless something like that would just be too costly...although seeing all those utterly famous roles being replayed but younger, I think, would be a huge hit).

That show was one of the best examples of incorporating old footage into a new show that I have ever seen, and they didn't have to use computers at all to do it. Brilliant!
