Ask questions. Housing costs vary a lot depending on where you're looking at moving. If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to try to answer them based on my experience. ) ~Beth

However, not much to rent up this way, so look elsewhere for that. 5 years or so ago it used to be a no brainer to buy a house out in the high desert and commute an hour or two into where the work is, but it's not such a no brainer anymore with the price of gas. Metrolink, the commuter train, isn't cheap, but neither is the price of gas. I'd reccomend trying to manuver your commute around the Metrolink instead of the Interstate. In the two large towns nearest me (San Bernardino and Riverside) a three bedroom two bath in a decent (not fabulous) neighborhood is running 300,000-350,000. Our salaries tend to run a tad higher here too, but (in my opinion) not high enough to justify the much higher housing prices. If it were only up to me, we'd probably move to somewhere else, but ElderP loves the mountains, the beach, and DL, not to mention a million other things, all within 100 miles or so. (And I do have to admit, some of the perks ain't bad!!) SoCals a pretty big place, I hope you find your niche.
