I am soooo bummed we aren't going now. I had been looking forward to it for so long.

Sorry your trip had to be postponed.

I had a seizure a couple of weeks ago and so everything has been turned upside down around here for me. My best friend (4Disnee) has been awesome and has been chauffering me all around since they have temporarily taken away my license. The doc put me on some medication to keep them from re-occuring, but wants to make sure my system tolerates it before I go jaunting about on vacation.

LOL, I think the worst part about all of this is knowing that I am going to be missing our annual Disney trip, especially since we were going to be taking my daughter's best friend for the 1st time. I know the girls are disappointed, although my daughter has been the sweetest thing & extremely understanding.

Thanks again Ursula, that is a terrific idea and I'll let you know what happens!

    All the best to you,

Its only the big ones that we really notice. Looking back on past experiences, it explains a lot of things that has happened in the past.

Since I'm still experiencing some warning symptoms she won't let me go until it subsides and I am back to my normal self. Plus, she wants to make sure there are no allergic reactions to the medication.

Yes, you are so right nemopoppins -- I am a total Disney fanatic, so this is even more stressing.

I hope everything is okay, I know it's just awful having to postpone your trip. At least this way, when your new date arrives, you can think that if you went in June, your trip would already be over, but now you still have your trip to DL to look forward to!
    Take care of yourself!

Hopefully you can reschedule but as much as we all LOVE Disneyland health is always more important.

The only good thing is that hubby's birthday is then so we can at least celebrate that in Disneyland! (Trying to think of the positives instead of the negatives) My daughter's birthday is also August 9th, so we can have a double birthday celebration down there!

We leave to start our vacation ( our very first Disney Cruise) in 5 weeks. I worried the seizures would affect our vacation but luckily the medication they put him has stopped the seizures. We finally get to see the pediatric neurologist on June 18th and from what I've heard from our pediatrician and other parents, there is a good chance he might change Nathan's meds- he is on a liquid 3x a day now which is a big pain and he prefers a med that is 1x a day pill. But it kind of scares me to change his med so close to our vacation.

Thanks for mentioning that dehydration could cause seizures- we've been told about not letting him get too tired, but now I know to make sure he drinks lots of water.

I hope you have a very wonderful trip when you finally get to go. I'll be very interested to find out about the crowds when you go because those are the dates ( end of July) that we are considering going on next year.

Honestly, he won't even remember it too much if he hasn't been able to relay that onto you. I think the hardest part is the exhaustion that follows and it can last days. So be aware of that! The only other thing I don't like is the coming out of it. It actually feels like you are struggling for consciousness (unlike fainting where you just "come to"). I don't know if he has convulsions (I don't, I do the whole stiffening thing where it just appears as if I'm not breathing, etc.) but be sure to gently turn him on his side and then leave him alone. Try not to touch him. It is best to just try and talk to him. Your voice will resassure him and help him to come around. Although, I am sure your doctor has told you all of this. A great site for information that really helped me find out more about this is epilepsy.com. You might find it helpful to read it before visiting the neurologist.

Also if you want to email me I can give you some information on the medication I am taking. Not sure if it is viable or not for children, but my husband works for a company that makes medicine (won't name it) and their onsite doctor recommended a certain medication as one of the best out there for seizures. I didn't tell my doctor what was recommended because I wanted to see what she was recommending -- it was the same one! Unlike other medications it doesn't require monitoring of the liver & kidneys so that is REALLY good. You can email me at: myguardian2004-laughingplace dot com.

I understand your concerns about the medication. That is why we are having to wait, along with the fact I am still getting nauseated and light-headed. Another word of caution... unexplained nausea (which I have been getting for months) can be a sign of a localized seizure! So be aware of that also.

I will keep you and your family in my prayers. I know exactly what you are all going through! Best of luck to you on your Disney cruise and I will get back to you on those vacation dates! In the meantime, I mean it, my email is always open to you if you need someone to just listen, share info with, give you first hand info, etc.

When he started the medication, he was unable to swallow pills. We were limited to something in liquid or chewable form. The meds he started with were chewable tablets, which he now takes 36 of them a day! (18 AM & 18 PM) He's been having seizures now for over 7 years. Now he is able to swallow pills and since he continues to have seizures, his meds get increased from time to time. He takes 4 of these big horse pills a day along w/the chewables. (I am afraid to change the chewables to swallow type pills b/c he also has OCD and along with the Autism, any change of routine is not taken well! I can't take any chances of him not taking his meds. Too dangerous.)
They are really scary to watch, you're so right Mickeynewe! When he finally stops seizing and starts breathing again, that's when I start breathing again, too.
Because he can't speak I don't know if he has a headache or is in any pain when it's over. He does get very tired. Depending on how bad it was or how long it lasts, he may sleep up until the next day. He had one last week and none of us were in the same room as he was. There was this really loud noise that sounded like my (other Autistic) son slamming the door, like he always does. I yelled at him for slamming the door so loud and DH is in the other room saying he didn't slam the door, here Matt fell as he was having a seizure and landed on a wooden table tray in the living room and broke it as he was falling. Boy, was it loud! Scares the you know what out of ya!
I hope you don't have any bad falls like that, Mickeynewe and Momof4boys little guy.
(Oh, and never have one while taking a bath! That's another story!)

Actually, right before the seizure I called out to my husband because I wasn't feeling well. It was 1:00 a.m. in the morning so he was asleep. He didn't here me call him, what he heard and woke up to was my head slamming the shower stall as I went down. I have never heard my husband's voice so scared in my life as when I was coming around. I felt horrible for the panic that caused him! Makes you definitely look at life differently!

Disneyland will always be there, and we would like for YOU to always be there, too, so take care of yourself.

I'm sending lots of Disney Magic and Fairy Dust your way.

If ya change your trip to the week of August 12th, I'll buy ya a churro and a dole whip...we'll be there until the 18th. And, if your meds allow, I've heard the Cove Bar makes a mean margarita......that's what Darkbeer told me.

I'm thinkin' happy thoughts for you.
